Cool Dead Cat at 3100 Miles?

Tried a new dealer today because my check engine light came on over the weekend. He said my cat was dead. I asked him how he knew my cat and informed him that she was alive when I left the house. Ok I'm being silly. According to him, the service manager, I have a bad catalytic converter. Financially this is a moot point because I'm still under the original warranty. I only have 3100 miles on the SRT. What do you think? Making work for themselves or bad part?

If the cat is dead whats running on the wheel to run the car?? (Im Being funny)

If your cat is bad the power will be bad & the back pressure will be too much.
Try putting your hand by the exhaust to see how much flows out?
If they are willing to replace it, I would.
Good luck

They gave me a loaner hamster, not as much torque, but better mileage.

They ordered the part. It appears they're on back order. As soon as it comes in I will get it replaced.

My car was a big hit over there. Everybody was oooing and awing.

I ran into another Crossfire owner and informed him about the forum and CICCI. I hope he logs on and joins.
We need more XF owners in L.A.

Now are they replacing both cats on one side or are they just going to replace one?

Just one I believe. I hope no one gets goofy and claims my resonator delete caused the problem. So far no ones even mentioned it. I think even they would know that's B.S.

you might want to have the car's AFR checked on a dyno, preferably before the cats, because these cars where detuned by Mercedes and run very lean, so you might need to get the ECU reflashed with the slk32 programming by a performance shop soon!!!!!!!!!!1

also NA cars are very lean runners and need larger injectors and a tune. MBZ probably used the C230 injectors on the NA 320. I know if I run it hard for 20 seconds in 5th gear the catalitic system gets real hot and gives off the tell tail rotten egg smell.

Thanks BlueStorm, This is an SRT6 and I'm planning on a tune. I like this Austrian tuner because the re-tune comes with a remote so you can switch it back for smog checks and warranty work. It's kind of pricey though. What do you think about those two issues. I live in CA, and I don't know if the re-mapping would show up somehow either for the state or for the dealer.

I just noticed you're in CA too. If you have a tune how does it work with smog checks.
