From the service manual (page 7-19):

The cooling system normally operates at 97-110 kPa (14 -16 psi) pressure.

In your other cars, you were trying to squeeze a liguid past your radiator pressure cap.Liquid is not compressible. Now you have an air pocket in the top of your pressurized resevoir allowing you to squeeze down the hose.

The cap is rated at 16psi +/- 2.

My gauge runs just below the half way mark. Hot days in traffic or on the Dragon, just above the half mark.

Don't squeeze the hoses, as they get older you will crack the interior lining of the hose and cause it to fail. This brings up the chicken or the egg, did it fail because you squeezed it or ........

I've seen it happen, it makes a blister or bubble on the outside as the water gets in the crack. Admittedly, I always try to change mine before they are old enough to crack.

If there was air in the system you'd know it.. right away too. My theory is if you're not overheating your coooling system is working.

For the record 'x' psi will exert the same pressure on the hose if it's air or water. If it can move out of the way when you exert a greater pressure on it, it will. If it cannot move then you will increase its pressure even more and expand the hose to a greater extent.
