Default K&N Air Filters

I just ordered two air filters for a price too good to pass up. I was wondering if anyone has installed the K&N's and noticed some, if any, improvement in performance. I also plan on just replacing the stock filters, not adding new air intake pipes yet. Any insight is appreciated.

I added mine and I did notice a difference in sound and performance. And to prove it I tried my air box on a new one to feel the difference and there definitely was an improvement.

I installed two K&N filters this past weekend. Frankly, I did not "feel" any difference so the stock filters must be fairly non restrictive. The big Air cleaner shroud is held on with four clips that clamp onto four posts. It is best to pull this off starting at the back after you remove the air intake hoses.

Then what does that say about the stock Air Box. Because K&N Filters are proven to breath better then standard paper filters. Now I don't know, because I never saw the K&N filters for our cars. But does the K&N Filters have the High spot low spot filters like the stock filters, or is it flat, with no size variation. My only experience with the flat filters, was with My 01 Silverado. I had that style of filter in before I put an intake on it. I have more experience with the cone filters.

The K&N is flat without the Low and High spot of the OEM Paper filters.

Thumbs up Re: K&N Air Filters

I agree with RedCross.

I notice a difference in the sound of the engine and a slight difference in acceleration, also a slight improvement in gas consumption.

I actually in testing with my Dual Intake system, that I have gotten better results with a foam filter. I've been designing my own filters. For the best results I would need a filter that would have chance of fitting in the very few spots you can tuck a filter into. In addition to filters, I have been working on a new sleek radiator spill over tank, that would replace the big stock plastic one. By doing this I am opening up a some great real-estate for a new home for a filter. The design of my Intakes system works extremely well, however I just would like to get the passenger side filter a little bit further away from the engine. Even though I have two ram air feed tubes supplied for each filter with more then enough colder out side air, I still want it to match the same set up as the other side. By having the filter being tucked in by the headlights. Yeah this car has more Scoops then 31 Flavors now!

So I shouldn't expect much if any changing over to k&n's? I'm used to fords, and you could hear a difference, and maybe a little better air flow. I assume a needswings, or tvt kit would be better. chris

Installed K&Ns on the roadster last May before going on a 1800 mile trip. No noticeable difference in performance. MPG seemed a little better -- averaged 28.3 calculated for the trip with mostly highway driving at 65-75.

I've added the K&N to my larger MB air box. There is some noticeable performance improvement, but I also get outside cold air. I have 3" air tubes going out.

I made the switch to K&Ns three or four weeks ago. No noticeable change in performance or fuel economy, although I definitely find the engine to be louder. Seems throatier, which I can take or leave as the car sounded great before the filters, too.

I just ordered a K&N Filter for my Crossfire. Am I hearing that there are two air filters in these cars?

I have had luck with these on every car I had put them in besides for Carbureted vehicles.

Yes, it requires 2 filters. One on each side of the box.

Are these sold in a set or do I have to buy two of them?

Lot of debate on K&N filters vs paper element filters:
