unpredictable alert chirping goes off
I have 2004 Coupe w/45k. Three different times my theft alert began chirping while parked in garage or restaurant parking lot. Could not stop it with the key fob. Problem temporarily solved; 1) Sitting in drivers seat, tried opening doors/rear hatch/ hood. 2) Started and drove for 8-10 blocks while chirping (everyone looked to ck me out) and when I returned and parked in the garage and turned ignition off, it quit. 3) Got it and started the engine and after about 30 secs it stopped. WTF??

Is it possible as well there is water in the lower hatch area below the carpet and foam inserts?

99 percent of the time it is the old batteries leaking acid and shorting out the circuit board in the alarm siren. No matter how many miles if you still have the old siren they go bad.
