Default Reprogramming an existing crossfire key

Is it possible to reprogram a crossfire key, and if so can the “blade” be replaced and cut to fit the ignition?

The original key can be reprogrammed, what's your problem with the key ?

I’m buying a scrap crossfire for parts. It has a key with it. I only have one key for mine, curious if it can be reprogrammed to work with my car.

I think the parts car fob can be recognized by your car, but the key and the security chip cannot - the key probably doesn't have enough meat on it to be re-cut, and the chip is a one time programmable eprom. You can buy a blank key on ebay for a few dollars, I believe the size is H64, and you can buy the programmable chip for a couple of bucks (I bought 10 for about $20, I don't remember the part number). The problem is finding a locksmith who can clone your key for a reasonable price.

You can get a extra key by sending in your existing key to the MSS, 5 working day turnaround at this link : https://themercedesswapshop.com/?page_id=211

You have a few options.
The best is to send your working key out to either Needswings.com or MercedesSwap Shop.com.
The next option is a memnber in the market place in our forum. Look for his add.
The last option is to find a local automotive locksmith as mentioned above, who can clone your chip and make a valet key.
That's what I had done here in New Jersey. The locksmith could not make a working key fob. When I get some spare money I'll send mine out to get another working fob.

Has anyone ever optically digitized a key into to a dxf format ? This file can then be used to generate a program for a cnc milling machine that could cut a new blank. This is probably how the keys were initially cut.
