Paint supplies
As part of my "care for my car" regime, I like to have a pot of paint on tap to help touch out of chips on the body work. So I call in at my local Chrysler service centre (we don’t have a dealer here) and they tell me that they don’t do them any more. He suggested Brown Brothers.
Are they OK? I know Halfords do a paint matching service too - but I suspect that they are mostly concerned with more common types of car.

I too contacted my local dealer for some touch up paint (Aero Blue) to cover some stone chips and the dealer said that they had never produced any touch up kits and probably wont.
So if any other member out there has an alternative or knows something that the dealerships don't a post would be appreciated.
Regards
JJ

This is something that I feel many UK owners will be concerned about, as the cars have been around long enough to pick up stone chips etc.
I too found that the dealers dont have any touch up paint, mine said they never had any from day one, but reckon touch up kits are on the shelf in the USA. Halfords say they can do a match from the colour code no probs, but Ive not tried them.
The best advice on this subject would come from the "Bodyman"
(hint-hint Jon)

You can order automotive paints on-line at www.expresspaint.com. They even provide paint codes.
Hi All ,you will need to ring dealer with chassis number from your own xfire to get the correct paint code for that year , As they will change shades with every new supply of paint to the factory , I used a local auto paint trade shop to get the correct paint when painting my engine cover , the prices look around £40-45 per 1/2 litre . i could not get this type of paint in a cheaper make of paint . All the paint shops/sprayer are moving over to water based paint & alot of trade shops have stopped selling the old type of paint . if you are from the midlands area i can get you a tel number of the shop i used , but they will not post the paint out to you
.
P.s. does anyone know the paint code for the front window surround
Cheers

I was thinking of getting some stone chips done soon, including one on the rear spoiler ! I would be interested in that midlands shop details. Has anyone used any of those franchise companies such as "chips away" ? I was wondering how good they are, but sounds like they won't have the right shade of paint.

Hi All.
I may be able to help. I will need your chassis No to find your paint code. I could do this from reg No, but if you have a private plate it some times doesn't come up. With the paint code you should be able to buy a small touch up stick from Halfords. This will be fine for touching stone chips. A small shade difference won't show. I think theres only a hand full of colours for the Xfires any way.
Cheers

Yes, Halfords can do Holts touch up paint mixed while you wait. It comes as an aerosol or a pot with a small brush, the brush option is the one to get for stonechips. Both are £10. They have a paint code/sample book and all the Crosssfire colours were listed.
Yes - I went to Halfords, and they couldn’t find the colour name on their system, so we took their Chrysler swatch book and did the match by sight. My car is Slate Crystal (ie dark metallic grey).
They also recommend a lacquer which lifts the paint's shininess. I have tried a patch on some paper, and it looks quite flat - it matches the car, but seems duller in comparison. The lacquer seems to make all the difference. I'm waiting for that to dry, and I'll do another comparison before I go at the chips.
You get quite a lot of paint for touching up too - far more than the usual size they sell off the shelves.

Machine Grey (Gray in US spelling) Clearcoat - P17
This was only ever a XFire paint colour and is no longer available from the dealers!! The parts manager recommended that I go to Halfords....probably where they got their paint for for my new boot then????
I must have been lucky guys, I went to the dealer (2 years ago), gave them my Vin No. and they sorted a genuine Chrysler touch up and lacquer kit for me.
Must admit, it took almost 4 weeks for the touch up kit to arrive though.
Lucky that my car is Black (the same as Ken's car) so it might be a common colour?
Alan.............

Yes I think if I needed almost any other colour than Machine Grey, there'd be no probs at the Dealers. It's just that one that's unavailable. It was only ever an XFire colour; I think the others are also available for other Chrysler models. Trust me to have an awkward one! I'll pop to Halfords I'm sure they can sort it out.

Nothing common about back!..Chrysler should have followerd in the foot steps of "Henry Ford" and produced all Black Crossfires..Then everyone would have the best colour available for a crossfire..
UKKen.
Here is the Chrysler touch up paint code reference document. The ZH column is for Crossfires.

I do look at the Crossfire forum most evenings just to keep abreast of what's going on though.
Noticed you left and then re-joined and now you have the BEST Crossfire in the BEST colour!!!
Well actually thinking about it, perhaps the Roadster in black with an SRT badge and the power that goes with it would be better.

Halfords mixed some Blaze Red Pealcoat paint while I watched, I got an aerosol and a bottle with a tiny brush inside and colour looks spot on
