Smile Chrysler Concepts

One thing I like to look at are concept cars they show what the car designers are really thinking, and also what car manufacturers are looking at as well. A lot are never realised, but some are. The Crossfire is very close to it’s original concept design:

What we are driving today is very similar to the concept - though I like the continuation of th spine along the windscreen and back door.

The 300C and the PT Cruiser are concepts which became real too. The PT Cruiser made me sit up and take notice of Chrysler - they clearly were making a design statement with their cars.

There are other concepts, which given the separation of Daimler and Chrysler are very unlikely to happen.

The Firepower looks like a flatter, meaner Crossfire which would have been a worthy successor.

The Chronos, while an old concept now is a car I would truly love to see put into production. It looks like a car of the future designed in the 1950’s - for me, it's a far better looking vehicle that the Crossfire is.

I like cars - ones which are different to the “norm” - that is the cheese wedge shape that most cars seem to be. There is a trend towards “retro shapes” - BMW's Mini which (oddly) is more of a Morris Minor size (and the new estate version seems to owe more the the Morris Traveller than the original Mini estate). Fiat's new 500 - again taking a classic design, updating it and slapping a Middle Class price tag. The Mini, Morris Minor and original Fiat 500 were definitely priced so that anyone could afford one - the new models have pretentious of social climbing.

Chrysler though seem to be able to do the “retro” bit without plundering their past, and, more importantly, ruining previous car icons by misunderstanding the social history behind the names they are pillaging.

Anyway, have a look through the site I have been linking to and see what Chrysler (and dodge) have been thinking over the years, There are some gems there.

Thanks for the memories. It seem like only yesterday that Chrysler had such innovative ideas on automobiles and even motorcycles. Wait a minute, it was only yesterday.

Too bad the Firepower didn't make it....

Looks like a new batmobile or something.

One of my reasons for having a Crossfire. It looks kind of like a Batmobile.
