Currently we are a fairly small band of keen Xfire owners who meet and share the same interests..cars and real ale! But on a serious note, how do those attending our gatherings feel about calling our self's "The UK Xfire Club"..we fit the difinition of the word..club..we meet fairly regularly, have the same interest's etc. We don't have to have a membership fee, a club
secretary, events organizer/leader etc..we can stay just as we are, and share related tasks etc

Also it would sound more professional to others when trying to incress our numbers or print up a few flyers about our meets etc.

Your thoughts.

Do we stay as were are.

Change to a club name.

Suggestions for a diffent club title.

Or any general related thoughts

None of my business but how about, UK CROSSFIRES.

 

nice idea. Our Astronomy group called itself a group deliberately not to use the word"Club" and avoid the "commitee" way of doing things with a select few running everything and making all the decisions perception. It is now called the "White Peak Astronomical Observing Group" and everyone has a democratic right to participate in any decision. This is a group that has money to spend and recently got a lottery grant, so may be a bit different, but you never know how things turn out.

Maybe we are more of a loose collective ( or group ), the word Club may lead to expectations, not sure.

We need some inventive types to some up with a cool acronym.. e.g.

Crossfire Owners Group - "COG" ... or something much better !

Here is something I found online and should be the only expectation of a car club. Something to think about.

" People in general join car clubs because they want to meet new people and have fun with their cars. If you are not having fun then what is the point in being in a car club?"

This is also something I found:

" A club is an association of persons identified by some common characteristic jointly supported and meeting periodically."

The Central Texas Crossfires has a motto, which is " Socialize, Show our cars, Have fun and Make friends." I think that motto covers both quotes.

Even though it is a Club of a Group of Crossfire owners, there is no need to have Club or Group in the name hence, UK CROSSFIRES says it all.

I'd like to see the " UK Crossfire Owners Register " (UKCOR)

This forum does everything we need, as a meeting place and information exchange and a source for all things Crossfire; But - I think it would also be good to have one central point where basic details of Owners and Cars can be brought together in one place. This would effectively be a list of all the active Crossfire enthuast owners who wish to be included in it. No single person would control it, and it would be totally driven by those who wish to be included in it.

For example; the register would typically hold details of owners and cars, ie

Name of Owner: Steve - UK
Model: Coupe
Man/Auto: Auto
Colour: Aero Blue
Year: 2005
Location: Newark

Modifications:

• Startech Chrome Grill
• Chrome Side Strakes
• Sprint Boster
• DVD
• K&N Air Filters

Other Comments:

• 275x35x19 rears
• MB Engine Cover on order

This can be done by simply starting a "New Thread" for folks to enter their own details, but it will quickly become burried and need bumping back to the top all the time. Better still, I can ask our freindly forum administrator to creat a new folder for it, like we did to get the "UK" folder.
Then each owner can create a new thread in that folder with their details entered in the above format, and they can edit their details with new Mod's etc anytime.

Personally putting the UK at the start of the name seems counter productive - it means we'd be way down on the list alphabetically.

Crossfires UK or even Crossfires:UK (if you like exciting punctuation) would be better.

Alternatively, if you want to be at the bottom, but want a better initial letter, XFireUK (or some variant) would be better.

Amanda is in a model horse talking shop which has an over pretentious name for the tasks it does (British Equine Collectors’ Forum) - it jokingly refer to it as “Blimey, Eating Chocolate’s Fun” because that seems to be what a lot of them like to do.

I do like Steve’s idea of a Register - many car groups go under than kind of moniker. Crossfire Owner’s Register could work (COR! - which is what the typical reaction to the car usually is)

 

Great ideas Ken and all.

Personally, I prefer the name UK Crossfires, but that may be because I spent several years as an organiser over at UK Cruisers (www.ukcruisers.net), the PT Cruiser owners' club. Crossfires UK also has a nice sound to it, and may be better so as to avoid any confusion with UK Cruisers (which is typically abbreviated to UKC).

If we are to become more organised, we may wish to consider putting together a committee...informal or otherwise...and once we start involving expenditure (such as with spotted cards etc.), we would need to think about membership fees, annual accounts etc..

I'm definitely up for the idea of a club, using this forum as the base, as I think it will be a very positive move forwards...and I'm certainly happy to take an active role alongside others as a committee member/organiser. Having been an active part of UK Cruisers for a few years, I have a number of ideas.

 

I dont think we will ever be big enough to warrant a full "club" with a comittee and secretary and accounts and things - we are just a small group of enthusiasts and just need to carry on doing what we are doing, which works fine. And if we can give our little group a name it would give us an identity which would good when we meet up at shows etc. I dont think we need membership fees and formal responsibilities and accounts, we are doing just fine as we are - Any comments!

At this moment in time with the numbers turning up at meets ,I think your right Steve-UK , If we were looking at 15 plus Xfires each meeting then we could rethink how we are doing things ,But i can never see that happening .

I agree, it is best to keep it simple. As there is no expense to operate our club, the Central Texas Crossfires (CTC) has no dues or officers to operate it. Our decals and shirts are paid for by the members at cost. I carry a few decals on hand in case a member wants one and if they want a shirt, I order it for them and give to them at the next meet. If a member wants cards to hand out, they do it at their own expense.

 

I agree that the numbers don't justify the formation of a club, and we'd probably need upwards of 20 committed members before we needed to start thinking about it. For the time being we can arrange our own t-shirts, calling cards etc. as BillF suggests.

So all we need to do now is agree on a name...and then maybe a logo (I know someone I can approach for this)...

 

By the way, we started our Club with 6 charter members one year ago this month. Number 18 joined this month. To become a CTC member you must attend a GTG/meeting. Not all of our members are committed enough to attend every GTG/meeting, but we still are a club.

 

Crossfires UK sounds good to me!

The wife is a member of UKC and they are very organised etc.. and run good events! I think keep things as an informal group at the moment and this would be the best way to let things grow naturally - formal structures may scare others away!

 

I'm pro club as you've probaby noticed. On a positive note, I would like to see Crossfire clubs around the world.
So I've posted the following quotes again.

It is good to have some form of structure and be part of something special. Without structure there is disorganization. Crossfire owners coming together is a group. UK Crossfires or Crossfires UK members would be a club. Our group voted to become a club with members to socialize, show our cars, have fun and make friends. Some Crossfire owners want to join our club and some don't. Every Crossfire owner is welcome to join our GTGs as a group or be part of something special by joining our club as we did. We proudly display the CTC logo for everyone to recognize us as a Club of Crossfire owners, not as a group of Crossfire owners..
