Default Is it me, or is it quiet here?

HI,
I know I’ve been rather quiet myself, which I’ll put down to the start of the year not going too well - when work slows down, it’s a bit worrying. January was very slow. It’s picking up, I think, but as a result I wasn’t really paying much attention to things. As one of my clients said today, people are starting to realise that business has to push on, which is good because when they push on, I tend to be taken along with them.

We are still in Crisis here.
Housing Crisis
Health care crisis.
Credit crisis
Auto crisis
Carbon crisis
Banking crisis
Employment crisis
Common sense crisis
Financial Crisis
National Debt crisis
Trust crisis
Confidence crisis
Stock market crisis.

There are no challenging opportunities here, just bunches of crisis. We do have hope though.
BUT,.........................................

It appears Hope does not make much noise, so yeah, it's quiet here too.

Still, I go to work everyday and most of my employees work every day and while we aren't making good margins, it's OK. Besides, given the new tax codes, who wants to get rich anymore.

So I guess, it's all working out.

You could be right, Franc. Maybe things will pick up when we get out of GMT and back into BST.

Yep - roll on BST!
But yes - it has/is quiet in here, so quiet Ive been looking in here most days, as usual, for any signs of life before scooting off to CICCI where there are always plenty of new posts to read. Hopefully things will pick up at Easter but this allways a naff part of the year!

Here it's quiet and cut throat. I've had to lower prices twice and offer new customers 6 months at 1/2 price. Work is off 50% and so many people are desperate that they are willing to work to survive and not for a profit. I still make a profit because I do more work than those I pay. But when things start looking up, if I'm still interested, I'll be in a great position to expand and be rewarded for my adaptability during this horror. Which I believe will get worse before better. I think I'll go detail the car and escape reality for a while.

Could any of it be due to the other forum? Are people starting to spend less time here like some of us mentioned when we first heard that there would be two Crossfire forums?

I thought the existance of the new forum was allways going to have some effect, but so far as I can see, all the CICCI members (like me) are still as active as ever in this one as well. Its just great to have two forums rather than just one! I reckon the new forum is going to be great and more and more folks are getting involved with it.

Hang In there Les,
It's going to be tough, customers know there are good deals out there and they getting acustomed to asking for discounts. So many businesses I know are just moving stock from A to B with no margin, and thats a road to knowhere. Retailers are seeing the worst of it, and you just have to find new ways of pulling them in through the door with leafletting and other cheap methods of getting their attention. Only grim determination and great salesmanship will win through! Good luck Les

Actually, business was slow here in the summer and fall, but picked up before Christmas, and has been better than expected for Jan & Feb as well.
Usually, Christmas kills our business, but this year many people were being more practical, and buying new mattresses rather than consumer electronics.
Always wanted to do mattress testing. Given my age (62) and drive, I'm idealy suited.

Much too tired anymore to attempt my other unrealized avocation. That of QC Director in a Cathouse. Statistical product sampling and review. It would be an interesting career change, don't you think?

If I got sacked would that be the same as getting "laid off?"

Hi, I've been too busy this last month to spend much time on anything but work, it all went a bit manic... credit crunch has had the opposite affect on some companies, we have picked up a couple of contracts and never been so busy !! I'm going to catch up on a few things I've been neglecting and take a look see what has been going on in the Crossfire world !

cheers

Paul

Been a mix here work wise - some folk have gone deathly quiet, others are "business as usual" - just took them to February to realise it.

Oh - GMT is also known as UTC in certain computer systems.
