Default Heater Fan Motor Missing

Hi Folks,

I bought my xfire a month ago from a used car dealer who bought it at auction. He told me the heater fan wasnt working and he wasnt fixing it as the car was at such a good price (which it was).

It turns out that the heater fan motor has been removed from the car. I just discovered this when I removed the cover from under the glove box this morning.

Where can I get a new heater fan motor? and how much will it cost? are they easy to fit? and lastly would it be the same as a heater fan motor from an slk and are these cheaper.

I should probably also mention that when I removed the cover under the glove box not only was there not motor there was nothing.. just an empty space and I could see up... should there be more than just motor in there? maybe something for the motor to sit into?

Any help would be greatly apprciated as considering its snowing today its not great not being able to heat the windscreen.

Jay

I'm no mechanical expert (no really - theory only) but i think there should be a cabin filter in there. Cheap as chips from MB dealer.

Going from my very vague memory, I seem to remember that the motor fits into a circular hole in the plastic. I think there are 3 screws holding it in, so if you can see 3 screw holes in the bottom of the plastic (by the door opening, I think) then the housing is there and you will just need to find a new motor. I seem to remember you saying in your last thread that the wire was there but hanging down. Is the door there that swings up and covers the motor? If so, the wire should plug into that door. I'm hoping the housing is still behid there! Regards, Andy

Hi Andy,

when I take the door opening off there is just an empty hole, no plastic housing in it for a motor to sit into.

It appears that everything behind the door seems to have been taken out.... plastic housing, motor ect

I'm at a loss because there are no garages here that deal with crossfires

It looks like all the parts may be the same as an slk, if this is the case I may be able to get them from a salvage yard but still not sure where to get it fitted

Check out ebay - lots of Crossfires in the breakers yard now. Give them a ring and get the whole assembly. This is a strange story, and makes you wonder what the last owner was doing! By the way, I would check over the car carefully for anyrhing else thats missing. !

Jay...SteveUK's advice about car breakers being an option is sound advice. As well as Ebay..check around your neck of the wood and once a xfire is located at a breakers yaed..go and check the fan location etc..

In your xfire look for the wires that the fan was connected to..and fitting a replacment may be eaiser than you thought.

Good luck

UKKen.

I would imagine the parts would be the same as SLK as the cabin filter certainly is, but not entirely sure. It might be worth giving these guys a call

Used Auto Parts for sale - Jeep Mercedes Benz Mitsubishi Honda Lexus Toyota Smart Car Breakers

Do you have a forum member nearby that you could meet to compare exactly what parts are missing? I'm gonn have to pull my motor out at some stage soon as I've got more leaves in there. If you haven't sorted it by then I'll get some pictures.

As UKKen said, I think the fitting of the bits will be pretty straight forward once you know what is missing. Is the cabin filter there??

Hope you get it sorted soon - not the time of year for no heat! I have my seat heater not working and that's bad enough!!

UKKen..
Sorry, it was a slow day.
I am sure that there is no need to limit ones search to a Crossfire for a replacement fan.
A suitable heater fan can be obtained from other cars. Get the number and have a look at Mercedes cars among others. It was probably made by Siemens or Bosch and if you can find the manufacturers part number you can get it cheaper than by buying the same motor with a Mercedes sticker on the box.
Buy a used Mercedes part from the wreckers and you can probably get a new Bosch/Siemens brand one for the same price.
I wanted a seat relay and the Mercedes one was $80+ the Siemens one was $35. But being cheap I fixed it for $1 for 10 diodes with 9 diodes left over.
