Tyre Choice
I am getting to 3mm on rears so time to start looking about considering Kuhmo as they are fitted to front but which for the rears all prices are fully fitted etc
Kuhmo 255 KU39 @ £152.64 or Kuhmo 275 KU31 @£138.16 (Micheldever are importer and 7 miles away!)
Any ideas - Hampshire is a strange place for car suppliers
Did think of Syron Race 1 @ £149.64 but Syron & Halfords? German Tyre design but not well known.
I know some people rate Falken but around here - no

Go wider at rear. 285/35/19 instead of 255. Go with Michelin Pilot super sports. It is what I have on the SRT6.
I have the Kumhos onthe rear @ 275, and IMO it looks great (swapped out some nearly new Falkens as I hated them so much), not a whole lot of road noise (certainly compared to the Falkens) and loadsa grip

The nearest size tyre to fit, which would result in the smallest change to the gearing, is 295/30 x 19.
The wife's crossfire is fitted with Uniroyal Rainsport 2 which replaced a set of Accelera Super Skiddies that were fitted when we bought the car. I cannot imagine why anyone would buy a performance car and fit dodgy rubber to it!!! The Uniroyals have proved to be very good so far, giving good grip in both wet (just as well this summer here in the UK) and dry conditions.
When the time comes to change, I may be tempted to look at Avon ZZ5's or Vredstein Ultrac Sessanta's if the Uniroyals wear away too fast.
Don't forget that changing the tyre size will have an effect on the accuracy of both your speedo and odometer as the rolling radius of the wheel will be altered. There is a calculator on this site (about halfway down the page), which also has some very useful info if you want to change wheel sizes and offsets;

I'm not saying that they will fit, but that would be the nearest tyre size to maintain the correct circumference for speedo and odo accuracy.
Try the calculator on the linked website to see for yourself!
There could also be implications with regard to your insurance cover if a non-standard tyre size was fitted. Don't forget that any changes to the spec of your car should be notified to comply with disclosure requirements and will probably attract an increased premium. UK insurers will try anything to get out of paying in the event of a claim.

believe me they are much better grip but the N/As do not need that as much as the SRT6s (especially if tuned)
thanks for heads up with tyre sizes. I am looking for the widest. Can also recommend tirerack.com and order from them. fast and cheap.

Interesting so far - on the subject of 295/30 they won't fit on standard rims as too narrow 10" minimum. So its KU31 275's or KU39 255's, the KU39 is the latest tyre and slightly better and potentially no insurance issue BUT
If we are suggesting changing tyre size could invalidate insurance how many people have informed about not using run flat as they were OE and changing tyre manufacturer as well?
We could go to silly extremes such as using Rinkydink tyres with stopping distances double that of premium tyres - my attitude is that if they are and approved by a manufacturer such as Mercedes (Kuhmo) that should satisfy the insurer and also if the tyre size is a correct size for rim and causes less than 3% change in circumference then also OK (275=2.12%) and don't forget that the rolling circumference changes anyway as the tyre wears approx 1.6% in case of 255/35/19 from new to tread depth marker.
Would be interesting to get an insurers opinion on tyres remembering they had objections to people fitting safer winter tyres in the winter.

After talking to a few of the tyre people around here I can hazard a guess - they don't like repairing punctures after using the tyre weld and will point blank refuse only sell a new tyre National Tyres are on Holts can as a company that will and even sell it but my local one refuses to repair tyre if you use it (nice trick)
so you may be forced into a super skiddie if funds are a little tight and you get a puncture.
Stiil there are those that will - Formula 1 Autocentre here will as will some National out of my area
