Default Servicing in the Midlands + Gearbox specialist

My XF started dropping into neutral when driving, which turned out to be was the result of gearbox oil loss (common problem). I had it serviced by a local garage previously but they were a bit lost on this one.

I was looking for a auto-box repair specialist, when I found Prospect Solihull who are a Mercedes-Benz specialist. They hadn't worked on a Crossfire before but were happy to take it on if I didn't mind popping over for them to connect it up to OBD computer to see if it was compatible. No charge.

They did that and also checked the level of the auto box while I was there, they pointed out that the auto box oil had never been checked as it had a black seal, and the replacements are all red - nice to see they know their stuff - and topped up the oil right then. Cured the neutral problem.

They knew to replace the electrical plug seal on the auto box and not mess about with gaskets. I asked them to do a gearbox service to be on the safe side, oil and filter change. Report afterward said they split open the filter and confirmed no swarf.

They did the B service for £299, and the gearbox service was £150. Plus a very good price on the oil leak fix. The workshops were v clean and well fitted, pleasant people and v knowledgeable. They even picked the car up from my drive. Very happy and I'll be going back. I gave them a CD to keep with all the crossfire manuals on, and said I'd spread the word.

In contrast - my local Chrysler garage didn't have a clue. Didn't even know now to check the auto box oil, and also quoted me £800 for a service B, saying that at 45k miles it needed to have all the spark plugs replaced.
