noise...a bit worried !
Hi all, my 54 base coupe crossfire has just started making a weird noise ! she's got 54k miles on the clock and had her for nearly 2 years now not a problem ever ! (apart from the common heated seat failure !)
can hear the noice, sort of whine/ticking at idle when both hot/cold, not the fan as its not on when the noise is on, its pretty obvious as i can now hear it from the cabin ! could it be the chain/belt ? im getting a bit paranoid now as i dont really need a £1000 bill from the stealer to tell me its something that it isnt , i know what they like !
i will upload a video as soon as i find out how to !
cheers guys

It's time for the screwdriver to the ear trick, or a stethoscope. Just keep away from the belts and pulleys, after all who wants a screwdriver rammed in their ear.
If you want to be super careful get a friend to do it for you.

thats what i actually think it might be
bloody alternator... never had one repaired or changed... does any one know how much the bill is likely to be ? only just had my magnaflow installed last thing i need is a monstrous bill !
thanks for the help by the way !
thanks for the help by the way !
just seen a few on ebay for £90 might give it a shot, will wait until the garage confirms it is the alternator 100% (im pretty convinced it is but he said it could also be timing chain depending on the noise...)
Again thanks guys, coming from hyundai coupe community it is nice to see that the crossfire community is as helpful
whilst i'm there i might as well ask, my crossfire keeps oversteering to the left for some reason(not drastically but enough to be noticeable)... there shouldnt be any reason for that as tire pressure is spot on, bushes seem alright, anyone experienced that before ?
thanks

I would be surprised if it was timing chain at 54K miles. Pull to left may well be tracking - some places set to SLK but I understand that Crossfire has slightly different settings
I got one from ACD! think it was £80 second hand. Easy to fit yourself or 1/2 labour at you local garage. Think new they are close to £200
Why not get it refurbished? Not done the Crossfire yet but the one from my Series 3 Landrover was refurbished with new bearings, brushes and diodes for around £40 - £60.
Refurb is only really an option if you can live without the car for a day or two, most refurb places will be able to rebuild within the day.
Good luck.

thanks robskytoon yes tracking, forgot to mention, has been done twice and also replaced the steering stabiliser... again keeps steering to one side grrr. unfortunately i cant live without the car so will have to be either a new one or used one replaced on the day at the garage. glad its not the timing chain as that could ruin my whole engine badly !
again thanks a lot guys

You could have slack in the wheel bearings
My car pulled to the left a little, and I took the car in for an alignment after I had new tires fitted all around. They worked on the car for a while and then decided that they did not have some part required for a Crossfire alignment. They took the car back off the machine. No charge, but the steering did not pull to the left anymore.
