Rear tyre recommendations
Hi all
Any recommendations for rear tyres please, I have Dunlops on at present. I do intend on using the car through the winter so would be after all season tyres.
Cheers
Elena

hi elena ... I use falken fk453 all round as do quite a few members, I went up to 275`s on the rear as I think they fill out the wheelarch better than 255`s, on my second set and have absolutely no complaints, reasonably priced too....chris

Thanks for the advice I will look at Falkens especially the 275s. Love the photo of the PT Cabrio, I will be getting one of those soon also as I do need a not so.selfish car to pick people up in.
Cheers

Hi
Thanks for the reply, just to clarify if I change from 255 to 275 is it still 275/35/r19 or does the 35 change, I bet you are laughing at me now

35 is the profile (tyre wall) dimension - that has to stay the same.
I have also have Falken FK453s - but 285/35/19 which is about as wide as you can reasonably go on standard rims - the fitters complained they were a total b*tch to fit, though!
No way - perfectly reasonable question.

I could only justify fat boots by going down-market a little but I'm well pleased with Falkens - my PT Cruiser wears them, too.
Actually there was little difference in price between 265, 275 & 285.
Might go 275 next time but the 285's do have a really massive look - for those to whom size matters...

Okay, last question; the load and speed rating. The Falkens 453 I can find are 275/35/r19 100y my Dunlops are 96y will this matter?
Cheers
The 'Y' speed rating is also OK, unless you're planning to exceed 186 mph...!
In case you haven't seen it, you might find this - and realated pages - helpful:
Tyre Load Rating | Blackcircles.com
beat me to it crosscats...
...was just trying to find the link to explain....never was any good at speed typing....chris
Seems Falkens are quite popular with Xfire owners - good combination of size availability, price and performance, I guess.
Not at all - the load rating is in kg so, as the Crossfire only weighs about 1450kg, divide by four = 362.5kg which is well within the capability of either tyre, even under extra load during hard cornering etc.

(what I should have said was that load rating is related to car weight in kg via the load index - thankfully doesn't seem to have confused you though...!
)Actually, although BlackCircles prices are pretty good, I have found our village garage very competitive and often beat even BlackCircles prices - depends on their wholesalers and mark-up I guess but if you have such a place locally, might be worth a try.
