Default interesting first day of ownership

26 miles done on my first day of ownership.
Started with spoiler switch flashing and spoiler refusing to go down when I stopped.
left it parked with it up.
Came back to it, drove off and it went down but didn't come backup while driving,
BAS ESP light came on and stayed on though.
Stopped at local garage, restarted and there was what sounded like relay going mad from behind the dash, chattering away.
Got it home and hit the remote lock and only one side of indicators flash to indicate locked.
I had to laugh, reminded me of my alfa GT i had a few years ago!

Did you buy privately or from a dealer? regardless if this is all happening on day one I would be going back to speak to the seller as these are obviously pre-existing faults.

check the battery make sure it's not the original, usually this is caused by bad battery, and yes a bad battery will cause the symptoms

That is a good place to start. The car is very sensitive to having right amps to just about everything, or it will do strange things. Look under the floor cover on passenger side, as well in the trunk area for water. Moisture will also cause things to happen...good luck...

thanks for that link.
Looked at my battery this morning - 'chrysler' written on it!
That'll be 10 years old then! I'll bung a new one on and see how I get on.
Todays driving:
Spoiler stuck up but no BAS ESP light on.
Driving home, spoiler stayed down for the first 5 miles, then chatter of a relay and the spoiler goes up and the switch flashes. I find it all amusing

cheers drummy.

Its been into the local garage today for oil and coolant change.
Had it scanned and no faults logged.
Having looked on the forum, the only relay that is behind the dash seems to be the electric seats so i presume this it the one 'chattering' from time to time.
The battery is being changed at the garage, seems a reasonable place to start as its still on the original one.

ok, new battery fitted.
ESP light still on and spoiler up with flashing light.
Over 90 audible bleeping.
Guess i need it scanned by a decent scan tool - see what code we get up

ok, micro switch on the spoiler motor broken so the car doesn't see the spoiler up and thinks its down.
Brought a new micro switch from maplins but have to take motor out to fit it.
Started using brake fluid this week.

You need to find out quickly where the fluid is going!

How does the pedal feel? is there any tendency for the car to pull to one side under braking? can you see any fluid on the ground when you move the car?

brake pipe corroded through where the two rear lines are kind of joined together. Both replaced, new discs, pads and fluid.
