Crossfire Wanted... at a bargain price
[QUOTE=fredank;778366]Hi Mo, so having read yours and Cross-cats advice I decided to go view the car at least and get the missus to try out!
The positives:
1. I'm 100% certain I want my XF in black or gunmetal grey
2. The automatic was so easy to drive, was great in low speeds and responsive when I stepped on it
3. Electrics worked fine
4. Most importantly the wife loved it too---> so all systems go, or maybe not
The negatives:
1. So the dealers idea of a full service history was 2 stamps. First at 19000miles and 2nd at 77000miles
2. The 2nd stamp very questionable - no number/name where this service happened (alarm bells ringing)
3. MOT new---> with no advisory, but done at the same dealers garage selling it (thinking vested interest) however left headlight not working at all... So how it passed its MOT with that obvious fault was questionable (more alarm bells ringing)
4. Rust on back wheel arches...
5. No HPI certificate
6. No receipts for any of the services or work done
7. No tax or warranty
Then entered into a conversation with the owner who then said, oh we serviced it before even doing an MOT: I was like so why is that not in the service book???
I walked away, saddened that I didn't quite get an XF but also convinced that it's the car I really want. Anyway if this is a bug I reckon I've got it bad. Nothing else in my price range advertised so gonna sit it out and wait patiently. But once I get one, I'll let you know... And who knows I just might join you on a meet soon!!!
Thanks for the help so far

You probably did the right thing! But with your budget of just 3k you will struggle to find a "perfect" car, especially from a dealer. You will ideally need to raise your budget.... or..... lower your expectations!!!
Keep looking, something will turn up. I will keep an eye out down here.
What is your top figure you want to go to?

Glad you've established it's the car for you - even though this one wasn't 'your' car, it's served its purpose - job done - now you can start a proper search!
But Mo's right - £3k is pushing it.
If you were a handy car DIY-er prepared to tackle a few jobs, you could certainly save paying a garage for any repairs, making your 'bargain' car a worthwhile purchase - but if not, perhaps be better to put that repair money towards a slightly more expensive one with fewer 'issues'.
Like I said in post 5, "for only a little more money, you might do better" - perhaps that's proving to be true...!
Having said that, you originally indicated red was a possibility, so have you spotted this one:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=281253477873&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:GB:3160
It's manual and very cheap for a 2005 average-miler.
He says it's in "very con" - hope the missing word is "good"!
Definitely worth a look, though.
OR
Chrysler Crossfire 3.2 V6 2dr
Crap pics but description is encouraging and decent low milage for age.
Haggle hard and it could end up nearer your budget.
Again, should be checked out.
Don't worry about HPI - you can do that yourself - £20 well-spent - or suggest seller gets it done. Assuming it's OK, they benefit, too - even if you end up walking away.
So even when you're feeling discouraged, there are still possibilities out there!
