Default Help - New Owner

Hi All,
Just bought my wife a Crossfire and could use a little advice on a couple of questions.
1. A number of cars we looked at before we bought ours had very opaque headlamps - how can i prevent this happening ?
2. When starting the car yesterday morning the radio came on for a few moments then the sound disappeared - the radio visual panel indicates that all is working ie channels, volume level etc are displayed but we have no sound. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,
John

common for the headlights. Just purchase a kit to clean them up.

Hi John, question for you, Why buy it for your wife and not yourself lol lol What did you buy?

The headlight problem happens to them all, kits are readily available to help keep them clear. As for the radio, can't help you with that one but sounds like possibly a connection problem.

Hi John,
Welcome to the forum!
As Mo says - nice for your wife - but just make sure you get to drive it, too!

Two things:
1) The XFs other than the base model (do you have an '04, Limited, or SRT ?) have a seperate power amplifier in the passenger floorboards. It sounds like this has either lost power or the connector is un (unlikely).

2) I use Blue Magic Headlight Sealer (not restorer) on both the Jeep and the XF about monthly. My cars also live in a garage. Sunlight affects plastic.

ps anyone know why the link button does not work with IE 11 ? Seems like for many things I need to use FireFox.

Hi All,
Thanks for your response.
Yes, it is the wifes car and Yes i'm gonna get to drive it.
It is a '53 plate coupe, light mettalic blue, auto that has only done 12.5k miles.
We looked at several 'immaculate' ones at dealers and found this one on AutoTrader.
Stuart at SDSC Motors was selling it, so after a journey over to Peterborough, a couple of hours later i was driving it home.
I'm going to put a private plate on it for the wife just to add to my 'brownie point' tally.

If the radio issue turns out to be a radio unit failure, have any of you guys fitted Blue Tooth replcement units ? Is this an ok swop ??

Thanks again,
John.

53 plate with only 12.5k miles!!!!! wow! Hope the oil was changed each year!

I think just about every type of radio has probably been fitted in to Crossies :-) so you shouldn't have any problem with what every you want to fit.

Pop in at UK Crossfire Owners Group on FB lots of info and banter with like minded xfire owners.

The 'licence' plate tells you the year (actually half-year) of the vehicle's first registration - 53 is second half of 2003 (and, confusingly, the beginning of 2004!)
You might soon be sorry you asked but see:

More Crossfires than a main dealer:

Used Cars Cambridge, Second Hand Cars Cambridgeshire - SDSC Specialist Cars

Some pretty optimistic prices, though...

Having looked at 5 Crossfires over the last few weeks, both private and trade, SDSC's Crossfires were in much better condition. I saw a couple of trade ones at around £5k and they were in terrible condition, scratched bodywork, rusty areas and tatty interiors inc scratched centre consoles etc. I'm sure most would pay for ones in above average condition ?

Well, perhaps I'm just used to watching the market, but forgetting general condition is gradually getting worse as cars get used - and not all get looked after properly.
I agree SDSC have some nice stock but they are dealers and have to make a profit - however modest - and although 21k miles is low and rare these days, and certainly worth a premium - how much is perhaps debatable!
Shopping around can get you a better private deal - if you keep your wits about you - assuming you have the time to look.
Guess it's horses for courses - you get what you pay for etc... Enjoy!

Hi Onconnom,
Hope you enjoy your new car !!
Like you, we looked at several 'immaculate / fsh' cars, all at dealers i should add and all of them were far from immaculate in my view and not with what i would call a fsh. That was why i jumped on the 12,000 miler that Stuart was selling. Yes, probably paid a premium for it, but who cares, sooner that than some of the other cars we looked at for not much less than we paid for ours.
Just to give myself a warm feeling with the car, i booked it in with the local Merc Dealer to change oil / filter / coolant and air cleaners which they did with no issues. They also did a 30 odd point check over of the car and could not fault it - so i got my warm feeling !! Next job will be auto trans oil change. I am also going to get it rust proofed because i do not think it was too well done from new - anybody got any views on this ???

The radio issue, well is just one of those things. Yes, did speak to Stuart about it and he did suggest a couple of things to try. I did'nt expect Stuart to be able to fix it, i am in Worcestershire so not that easy to ask him to look at it or sort it for me. Like a lot of owners seem to have done, i'm going to get a quality head unit fitted, so that should sort it !!

That's it for now, keep us all informed how you get on with yours,
John.

Here is a pic of my kenwood KMR-D588bt I installed a few months ago. It is the marine version. Changes the display color to match the lights on the dash, i think it looks better then stock. I have a thread I started that has more pics and how I routes the mic.

I do not know how to post a link on mobile version (samsung s5)
Do you use desktop or mobile version of forum?
On mobile version I can hold down on a user's profile pic and it gives me a option to see posts by user, show threads started by user and send private message.

Sandy,
That Kenwood looks very nice! How easy was it to connect up ?
Can't seem to buy it in the uk, but US suppliers will ship.
Need to check that it will work on uk FM band/ freq spacing
