I'd been browsing for months before I joined last month - admittedly to sell my 'old' srt6. I pop in every day although it is very quiet ..... perhaps this will cause conversation: I may be selling my 'new' srt6 early next year ('57 coupe aero blue 25k miles as new! vin 6X068572) I fancy a Jeep SRT8 (comments/views welcome). Also: Is it just me or does the new Jaguar F type coupe just look like a Crossfire coupe?.....Chris.

Why do you think that UK Crossfires Club would discourage its use! Quite the opposite, this was, and still should still be a great forum. The early UK owners met in here in 2007, and through the friendships made here I instigated this UK section of this forum way back then. A few of us oldies are still about (Chris, Ken, Jon) and all still look in here regularly. This forum is always recommended as "the source of techy info" and it would be a shame to ever loose it. In fact many of us have donated financially towards the up keep of this forum in previous years. As said, many folks have migrated to Facebook which is better for instant conversation with pictures etc. and many folks access Facebook via phones and tablets. As the values of XFs has dropped so has the age of the average owner with a lot of younger owners who prefer mediums like Facebook and Twitter to chat. It has been noticeable that some new owners have come in here and after getting a rough ride in here have never come back. So a number of factors here. On behalf of the UK Crossfires Club, long live the Crossfire Forum!

Just to clarify, "reluctant to encourage" is not quite the same as "discourage".
It's just the impression I've got from stuff on the forum (or recent lack of it from the UK) and the few conversations I've had with other members.
Fair point about the increased use of social media sites but I get the feeling that 'newbies' are getting mixed messages about what is the main point of contact and best place to get advice.
The same seems to be happening to lesser extent with the UKCruisers forum with some even thinking members' personal FB pages are 'the' club site.

Not having any other need for a smartphone, I find accessing the forum via laptop/desktop is easiest for me and, until recently, it's been the best point of contact - I just thought it a shame that the UK club seemed to favour the FB route over the forum.

But, maybe it's just me - and one day I'll have to accept being dragged kicking and screaming into the FB/Twitter-sphere...

 

Yes I agree, the more ways there are of being in contact the more diluted it becomes, and I expect the other forums are finding the same effect elsewhere. Personally I prefer this type of environment, and I hope it can be revitalised. I also agree about the confusion it causes for folks searching for information and organisations and they are not sure who is who etc. With the UK Crossfires Club the main anchor is the website and we also had a Facebook page for the last 2 or 3 years which was very little used. But then this year the members told us they wanted a Club Facebook public group site to chat in and share photos etc., and this old forum didn't seem to meet that need. The Clubs Facebook group site is an "open group" to anyone who wishes to join and post, and anyone is welcome to join it. So that's "progress" for you lol

I post a simple question that requires a simple answer and what happens? thread gets hijacked onto a totally different subject then some pompous tw@t has to turn it into an argument!!!!!!

 

Anyone in particular you had in mind, Mo?
Isn't that the way conversations develop - part of what makes life (and forums) interesting?
Or would you prefer not to have discussions - just monosyllabic answers? - oops, sorry - wouldn't want to be accused of being pompous!

Lol. I started this UK section of Crossforum.org in 2007. Mick its not a case of being sensitive or manning up, or wanting to talk about the weather mate. If I use Facebook its the one belonging to The official UK Crossfires Club, its an open and friendly group and its 100% XF's. If you had been in here for some time you would know what a great forum this used to be. This UK section is dying slowly because folks don't like abuse dished out by one individual, who (above) called me a ****. If you are happy with that then its your personal choice and wish you all the best. I will be back when the a$$hole has gone, Cheers and al the best, Steve

 

Its unfortunate that this kind of situation( minor spates and disagreements or political infighting) In this instance resulting from an insignificant be relevant initial question puts people like me off the prospect of joining Crossfires UK. In my experience the US version of the site is far more useful and does not result in petty name calling. I do not use Facebook and whilst the Crossfire UK site is useful for details of meetings it does not represent a good user experience being full of old information re past meeting dates etc.


I do recognise however the work carried out by the small team in respect of Crossfires UK and how difficult it must be to please everyone. The job of a website editor is never easy and it must be difficult to get people willing to give up their own time to benefit other Crossfire owners especially when it appears that there will always be people willing to let of steam but not wanting to get involved in the general running of owner sites meeting etc. I hope that people like Steve and other members will still be willing to spend their time contributing and organising on behalf of all Crossfire owners in the UK.
