New Owner from Manchester
Re: New Owner from Manchester
Welcome to the forum. Put the UK I up along with the Manchester.
There are a fervent bunch of Crossfire owners in the UNk. Contact them through the UK forum in the Europe forum here. They have a club site and lots of meets there.
I'm originally from London/Potters Bar areas.

Re: New Owner from Manchester
Hi Raz,
We are both in the same situation then. I am looking for a Crossfire and live not too far away in Cheadle.
The problem I have found are all the cars I've been to see have rust causing bubbling paintwork on the wheel arches (in particular the rears), tail gate underside (which I am not worried about) and some of them have had bubbling paint on the lower section of the doors (down from the handle).
Good luck in your search, I may bump in to you at a viewing.

Hi Mark,
Thanks for replying, good to be able to get a bit of local help or join up for a run sometime.
I have been an active member of a couple of user forums and written quite a few 'how to' threads and can hopefully contribute a bit here too.
I am really enjoying the car and keep finding any excuse to pop out and have a look at it.

Re: New Owner from Manchester
Where do you get your xfire serviced. Mine is nearly 10 years old 45K on the clock and looking to get everything ready for next year. Dealership is not interested, so looking for a good indie to sort everything out, or to get me going in the right direction.
1. Coolant Change - unable to locate correct coolant
2. Plugs - A pain to change
3. Brake fluid - not done any digging yet.
Any help appreciated.

Re: New Owner from Manchester
Great to see fellow owners nearby are so active! Anyone else in the Greater Manchester area?
Such a good looking car. I have noticed that when driving around you can see people giving it a second look.
@i Ringspanner I'm in Cheadle Hulme. about half a mile from me there is a light blue roadster in Heald Green. Apart from that and one in Liverpool where I work I haven't seen many Crossfires.
@ Thetester I do all my own servicing but can recommend a great guy in Stockport for the work you're after if that is not too far to travel. The work you outlined is all very standard stuff and any garage worth it's salt could those.
Ala_xfire, thanks for your hard work. I have read dozens of your posts now, always considered and informative.

Re: New Owner from Manchester
Evening All, good morning to our friends further afield.
ala_xfire, I understand that the Zerox G05 is not available in the UK. or have I got that wrong?
Exfire, if you could let me have his name.
I have found a tiny back street "indi", did an oil change for me £20.00 labour only. I picked up the parts myself. Would like to use him again, but its a crossfire, not a Ford fiesta. (nothing against ford).
many thanks to all.

Re: New Owner from Manchester
Apparently MB antifreeze was originally a BASF formulation G 05 a "HOAT" Hybrid Organic Acid Technology coolant. Where G stands for Glysantin aka Ethylene Glycol and 05[ nitrite containing ] under MB spec 325.0
This G05 formulation is made by several manufacturers under licence.
Here's a list of approved antifreeze that meets 325.0
MB 325.0 - Anticorrosion/antifreeze agents (Specification 325.0) - Mercedes-Benz Specifications for Operating Fluids
@ Thetester here's the garage;

Re: New Owner from Manchester
Found that Comma have a license to manufacture/supply G05 coolant in the UK, however their technical paperwork states that the G05 is for "heavy use" and the crossfire would be more suitable to the G48. Again there is a certificate showing approval to MB 325.0 for the G48.
Any body any comments on the G48.
on the positive side G05 & G48 appears to be sold by everybody in the UK

Hi I am in the Atherton Area of Manchester.
For parts I find Europarts are quite good, put in your registration and up pops a list of parts for your car in order of type.
ie. Service parts, Brakes , Susupension and Coolant under Fluids.
I was time served mechanic originally so tend to do my own services on older cars. My first Crossfire was still under a warranty so that went to the dealer (when there was one )
