Default Search feature on the Forum

Is it me or is the search feature here on the forum different?
When I use it I might get one relevant result but the rest just look like a list of the threads that don't have anything to do with what I am looking for. Am I not using it right? All I have been doing is typing something in the search block.

I've always felt the same way Larry. The search over on Benzworld is more like the way this one should be. It shows the first 5-10 lead post that contain the search item. Much more efficient. I sometimes get better results using the Advanced Search under the "Tools" dropdown.

I find the same results unless I use the "advanced search" in the drop-down box under "tools"

I gave that a try by using "battery" same bad result. Just 1 relevant result.

Advanced search using the word "battery" and choosing from the dropdown box "search title only" might work

Using just the word battery will get all posts that mention the word. You have to refine the search with another word or two.
Using the advanced search is the best, as you can specify the poster, the forum it is most likely in etc.

Thanks Gary, I've just now played around with this way and it seems to work much better! Much appreciate everyone's help. I guess I didn't try enough drop down boxes to get the results I wanted.

Another thing to keep in mind, when you are listing key words to search on, if you put the key words in quotes, the search will look for threads that have that entire phrase. If you don't use the quotes, it will look for any thread that has any of the words. I was looking for threads on starter motor. Surprising what comes up if you search for starter motor (154 threads) or "starter motor" (85 threads). The latter found what I was looking for.

I've tried looking for info using "Search Title Only" and other drop down boxes. Problem is we as a group tend to digress in many of our threads from the original point. I know I'm guilty of this at times. And so there might be valuable information in a thread that is completely unrelated to what you're looking for.

It is what it is!
