Default Question for Everyone In Western States

Why does everyone else get to have all the fun ???

Tail of The Dragon ... central to the east coast, much of the south and the easternmost parts of the midwest ...

Woodward Ave Dream Cruise ... upper midwest and eastern Canada and portions of the east ...

Where is the signature event for those of us in the western part of the country ??? We're the ones who're supposedly welded to our cars ... we're the ones who're traditionally rolling up driving miles far in excess of those in the east or midwest ... where is OUR big event????

What are we lacking that we have no event to call our own ???

I don't mind doing a bit of organizational work and will be happy to serve in concert with others, assuming there are any, who'd like to see us establish such an event here in the west ...

I'm going to be away for the next week, but when I get back I hope there is enough reaction to this concept that we could put something together ...

well, that was certainly well received ... no more than a resounding echo ...

I had an off-forum exchange of messages last night with one of the SoCal members ... our communication touched on this topic ... neither of us can understand why we in the west have no signature event for Crossfire drivers ...

I guess if there's not even enough interest in such an event that not a single response to this thread has been made in almost 2 weeks, there's never going to be such an event held ... and frankly, IMO, that's a real shame ...

So, I'm going to trot this thread out again in hopes of generating some response ...

Steve,
While you were off on vacation you missed the "West Coast Shootout" at Speedway race track in Phoenix, AZ. Might be the closest thing to you yet.
Actually had a guy from LA show up.

that looked like a great race event ... being in a controlled area where one could really let it out would be a lot of fun and I could really enjoy that ...

but, what I was thinking of was something along the lines of Tail of the Dragon ... there must be any number of places here in the West where a lot of us could hook up in a similar event ...

We had a couple of SoCal hook ups last summer - one at Cars & Coffee and then rolling up to Malibu and another down in San Diego - but that was about it. It seems there may be more forum members on the East Coast than West Coast too.

Woops another typo, should read Rte 89 .Page AZ, past the Vermilion Cliffs, into Kanab. UT,then north, it runs close to I 15, but 20 or so miles to the east. Burle Ives could remembered on this trip as it passes thru "The Big Rock Candy Mountains". Starting @ St George UT you can travel thru Zion National Park and pick up 89 from 9. Its 2 days from my place

I would love to see something like what is going on in the East. It seems that we haven't been able to find a time when we could all attend. I am as guilty as anyone, because I travel extensively for my day job.

You really might be onto something with this idea ... it's about 2 days from a great many of us which makes it about as central to everyone as we'd ever hope to find ... to go from St. George to Kanab and on to Page, then loop down through Jacob Lake and back to Kanab takes in some spectacular scenery and requires some real driving like Tail of the Dragon does ... I really like the idea and think that once they check it out, others will too ...

Actually he was one of the MB guy's. Believe his first name is Ed. He took the "Furthest Traveled" trophy at our event.

A West Coast car rally would be a lot of fun (I've been waiting for our rained out Napa Valley run to restart, looks like it'll be a while).

Yosemite, Crater Lake, Lake Tahoe or something similar would be a fun trip (although right now might not be an ideal time to do it).

How about a nice Las Vegas meet perhaps during Mopars at the Strip (mats.com). We could drag race at the event and then on the weekend there's always Valley of Fire just outside of town which is AWESOME and leads to a VERY long road course like highway that have very few cars. I did a cruise with the LX guys in my Charger last year and was taking curves(riding a slower Charger drivers' azz) at 120mph!!

At our last meet in San Diego we kicked around several ideas such as a run out to Palm Springs. I think what hampers us in holding more meets is the lack of someone taking the lead in organizing one. After all, here in California we are not people - we're sheeple. Oh, and our jobs/home life are diverse enough that it makes it difficult to select a date that agrees with everyone.

Most likely I'll make it to Las Vegas over Christmas to visit friends. Since I had to pass on the Phoenix meet due to an uncertain job future; and now that the job looks good, at least to the end of the month, I'm planning on Vegas.

Vegas Baby, Vegas! Cruzin' down the strip, hot summer night, top down, (the car, not me). Perfect! Rooms are cheap too during the summer. I used to have a host at the Rio and the Mirage, but since getting remarried, I haven't gambled as mush as I used too, so probably lost my "host". Still go over alot, my brother-in-law lives there. Only about 4/5 hour drive from LA. I would do a Tahoe/Reno trip when it's warmer!

I agree with that assessment ...

I'm going to see what I can do to put some of the details together ... there are a couple of folks that I think I can count on for some of the organizational support and I think it's something that not only can be done, but that we can put together an event that will be the envy of those in the east and midwest ...

One of the first things to do is realize we can't do this next week or even next month ... it requires that we pick a date further in advance and one that is determined more by season than by individual near-term availability ... if we were to go ahead with the St George to Page return to St George Loop that has been discussed here seasonal planning is essential ... snow has to be gone and we should not wait until the heat of summer is at is most extreme ... probably late May or very early June ... by picking dates that far in the future, people are able to plan around them rather than try to schedule an event around everyone's existing plans ...

What I'm going to try to do in the next 10 days is put together an overall plan then present it in general form to see how it flies ... having put together other (entirely different) events, I believe that what we are working with has a lot of very exciting potential ... and it's centrally enough located to be generally convenient to CA, NV, AZ, NM, UT and CO drivers ... a bit less so for WY, MT, ID, WA, OR and the westernmost Canadian provinces ... naturally, anyone from anywhere in the country could come, but there is a lesser liklihood for folks that far away to be willing to make the trip unless it is really compelling and I think it'd take a couple of successful runs before it would achieve that status ...

I've spoken to enough Crossfire drivers now that I am sure there is general support ... let's see what having the outline of a plan and some tentative dates do to building on that ...

Naturally, input is invited and will be appreciated ...
