Phoenix: Cruise on Central, Oct. 8th, 2011
It's time again (it only happens twice a year) for the Cruise on Central in Phoenix.
I will definitely be driving again, probably from 3pm-on. The variety of vehicles is amazing, and the camaraderie between drivers is something to experience. All around, it's a positive, very fun event!
Here's the pertinent info, stolen from Cruisin' Arizona
Event Host: Nancy Perry Productions
Event Location: Park Central Mall, 3110 N. Central, Phoenix
Event Contact: Nancy 602-843-3545
Event Hours: 1:00 till 9:00 p.m.
Event Entry Fee: $10.00 per car [if you park at Park Central Mall... there is certainly no fee for cruising!]
Huge Fall Cruise on Central Ave, thousands of people and hot rods, lots of family fun and live music, vendors, and great food. $10.00 entry includes a t-shirt.

Re: Phoenix: Cruise on Central, Oct. 8th, 2011
A year ago, I didn't have Bernadine, and I was happy to wander through the cars in the parking lot.
But now that I have her, all I want to do is drive.
I'll likely cruise the whole time, but if anyone else shows, I wouldn't mind pulling off somewhere and shooting the breeze for a while... and then, back on the road!

I live in N Idaho but work in Tempe and maintain an apartment in Chandler. I just picked up an 05 roadster to drive while in Az. I'm here about 70% of the time and might be interested in this cruise but don't know a thing about it. Can someone enlighten me.

If you're here on October 8th, you should come.
The Cruise takes place on Central Avenue in Phoenix, between McDowell Road and Indian School Road.
I don't know how many cars show up... hundreds at least. Some buy a spot in the parking lot of Park Central Mall to show their cars. Others just cruise up and down Central Avenue.
I've seen Model T's, Super Bees, lowriders, tuners, grungy pickup trucks, '49 Mercs, pristine fat fenders, 'Vettes, bugs, just everything. There's no cost to drive circuits on Central, and if you want to stop and check out the scene at the static displays, there's a parking garage west of the flat lot at the mall.
Crowds line Central and try to get everyone to peel rubber. The burning rubber smell is strong!
I think it's about the best open show around.
If you're curious, just come check it out (traffic gets snarled about 6pm, but it's okay, because everyone's having a great time). If it doesn't suit you, you can just drive home. It's a very casual thing.

Sounds like fun. My home town does something similar. The name of the town is Coeur d' Alene and every year they have a weekend event that runs from Friday night until Sunday afternoon. They call it Car d' Alene. I'll be here on the 8th so will be there for sure.

Yes, that is an important birthday...
I was at the Cruise in April until 10pm. Traffic started really thinning, and it just felt like it was time to go. I expect about the same on Saturday.
I think there will be other opportunities; this is only the first. Don't be too bummed... you've got months ahead of you with your girl.
I haven't been to any of the meet-ups (the show in Chandler comes closest), so I'll have to make a special effort this fall/winter/spring to join in on one of those.
Have a fun time at that party!

just a couple hundred parked cars and DJ,individuals and groups show up, hang out and bs. official start time is 4:00 some guys start showing up in the morning to get spots but they close off to the general public parking at 4. I've been going there for a few years met some great people and seen some interesting cars. Big groups of vetts, mustangs, roadsters, etc

And I did not burn out. Bernadine does not do burn outs. She thinks they are tacky.

KellogKid - New clutch? Ouch. How many miles do you have?
chickstead - Then I am willing to bet it was you. I spied no XFs myself... but on my way to work today, I passed an aero blue roadster heading south on Grand Avenue with a lady driver. I've seen her on Grand before. It took my work commute to see another XF. Go figure.

I just took delivery of Millie about 3 weeks ago with 73k on the odometer. I'm accustomed to OEM clutches lasting 2-3 times that long so didn't really check it out when I test drove her.
I only had the car for 1 day and then got called out of town for 2 weeks. Got back, drove her for a few days and realized the clutch was slipping. Last week I took her back to the dealer I bought her from and they have agreed to take care of it. I've been burnt by dealers so often that I'm still in disbelief. When I get her back and all is good I'll tout the dealers name at every opportunity.
