16 inchers for snow tires

Default 16 inchers for snow tires

Would I be able to use 205/55 and 225/50 for now tires?
The diameters are pretty close to stock?

Any one have any success with these or similar?

i'm not sure a 16-inch rim will clear the brake hardware. IIRC, a 17" will; someone had installed them last winter.

I know this is an old thread, but I just got some 16" wheels/tires in the above sizes from an SLK for the Crossfire. They DO clear the brake hardware. The only thing that I am going to need is some spacers for the rear because they don't stick out enough.

Also I want to add that 16 inchers would not work on an SRT. 17's should work though.

that's one freakin' headache I am glad to NOT have ... left the snow behind years ago when moving from the Rockies to California and I don't miss it one bit ... I was never a skier and not once did I derive any pleasure from snow ... MrsS and I have talked from time to time about whether we'd relocate after retirement and while that remains an open topic, we agree that if we were to move, it will not be to a place where snow might fall and stay on the ground ...

Your oem 225/40 18's are roughly 25 inches in diameter and the 255/35 19's are roughly 26 inches in diameter. The 205/55 16's are fine for the front at roughly 25 inch diameter. However, the 225/50 16's are also 25 inches in diameter and way undersized for the rear. Go to www.tirerack.com and check out the specs on the tires. My guess, and it's just a guess, is a 235/55 16 might be 26 inches in diameter. Happy hunting.

Tire rack didn't show a 235/55-16 available in a winter tire. Looks like 205/55-16's up front with 225/55-16's in back are a close fit. Again, make sure your ordering 55 series tires for both front and rear. Should you order 225/50 16's out back as you stated they will be close to an inch shy in diameter.

I must be really bored . . . you could run a 215/60-16 out back, they come in at just over 26 inches in diameter.

i just putt 225/40 on 18" TSW Bremmas all the way around for the winter. They work great...so far. It was a major headache to get them mounted. Didn't order big enough spacers and ended up having to go with shroter bolts and spacers to get the same thread travel... I know it's not ideal, but it has the identical distance of thread travel as the stock rims with stock lugs.

oh well, its only for winter. i'm already looking for new rims for the spring thaw...

1010tires.com will show you a tire calculator. You can plug in the OEM and the size you are looking to use.

The 235/55/16 is a better fit and the revs per mile on these are only 5.5 (less) different and the speedometer would be at 59.6 (.5666% to slow) and the overall diameter is 26.17

The 225/55/16 revs per mile on these are only 8.7 (more) different and the speedometer would be at 60.6 (1.08% to fast) and the overall diameter is 25.74

As I've got a truck (RWD ) with a ShurTrax Traction aid on order, I've given up on driving the XF this winter. Sure, the truck isn't all that great, but a 94' Ranger getting wrecked is a lot more acceptable in my opinion

BTW for those of you who have RWD trucks or even the crossfire, go to Amazon and check out the SureTrax they have some pretty good deals for just the bladder and you can get your own tie down's.

Yes, I know that the 225/50/16 are smaller than the factory 19's outside diameter. However, the manual recommends 225/40/18 all around for winter driving, and the 225/50/16 is about the same OD. The speedo will be off a bit, but if the factory says it is ok than I will go by it. I would have personally gone with a 55 in the rear if I was putting the wheel/tire package together myself but I got the set for cheap off of fleabay.

Wow . . . sorry, I would have never guessed that. Amazing things to read those owners manuals. I just think the car is going to look like its running on temporary spares out back.
