Advice on tire sizes
Advice on tire sizes
I contacted some Chrysler dealers about replacing my front tires. I requested the same thing that's on there now, Continental Contact Tourings 225/40 R18 88W CW95. One dealer said the ones they can get are 225/40 R18 92W CW95. Could one of you advise me on what difference the "88W" vs. "92W" means and whether this is an acceptable substitute? Thanks.

~ see below info:
________________________________________
service description
a service description identifies the tire's load index and speed rating. it can be found on the sidewall of the tire after the size listing.
the load index is the tire size's assigned numerical value used to compare relative load carrying capabilities. the speed rating is a letter denoting a fixed maximum speed capability.

you will be fine to go with these... the tires look identical. you won't see or feel any difference. go for it.

Re: Advice on tire sizes
The difference is the load index, or the weight each tire can carry. They are both at the W speed rating which is up to 168mph. The 88 series has a load capacity of 1200lbs vs the 92's 1400 lbs....so to mirror what everyone has said, yes you will be fine taking the 92W over the 88W but now you know why. =)
