are the lug bolts too long? I pulled the wheel and looked everywhere on the inside of the wheel, around the wheel well and all around the rotor and could see nothing rubbing. I assume it is the bolts?

Yes, they have to have the same "stick out" as the OEM wheels/bolts. You're hitting the e-brake with the long bolts as the wheel turns.

I am running .93" thread length bolts now, i can not find any that are shorter.

does that mean i need a wheel spacer?

space it, cut the studs, buy the correct lenght studs.............it's up to you(I've done all three on different setups with sucess). Take a stock rear wheel and lug bolt, instert into wheel and measure the amount of threads or length of bolt sticking out...........that is what you need to be at with your new setup.

photoman,
I have the Voxx MG's only in 17x8 and my lug bolts are .850" of thread with the Gorilla bolts. I got not clicking.....

I did the trick that Mopar told you with the factory wheel and bolt.

I just ground some down... works well, lol. Or spare tire bolts from an E-Class.

i may order a 5mm spacer since i have the shortest lug bolts you can get and do not want to spend the $ to get another set for the 10mm spacers.

the only thing that concerns me is that i read the 5mm hub centric spacers do not have a lip since they are fairly thin .1968" and i am worried my wheel may shake.

have any of you ever used 5mm spacers on these cars?

thanks

It's the DA causing the clicking.......

Lol that is what I was starting to suspect as well!

It looks like this may be the issue:

That is definately shorter lugs than mine, the ones I have are.93" of threads. Where did you find them at, I even looked on the gorilla site and could only find lug bolt locks in that size. Do you have a part number?

That is a .008" difference, I guess mine are just barely enough to rub. The 3mm spacer I just ordered should do the trick, it will make my bolts .118" shorter or .812" long.

Thanks

It would be a LOT better just to cut down your lug bolts than to run spacers...............but that's just my opinion.

Thanks, I read that a few places. So I need to be able to count 7 threads sticking out the back of the wheel?

I plan to order shorter lug bolts later and sell the spacers on ebay, I just needed these in a hurry for saturday lol.

Unfortunately the only thing i have to cut them with is a dremel and i am sure that would take a few days of non stop grinding to do that lol.

UGH!!! I am in the same boat with my new non-drag wheels. The real bummer is that I just found this out tonight. I don't have a grinder, but I do have a dremel tool. I tried that, and it would take about a week to grind them down enough.

I called around and no one seems to stock lug bolts, let alone the correct size. In fact, most places I called it took some real explaining over the phone to get them to understand that I need LUG BOLTS NOT LUG NUTS!! Ugh!

I swear, everything to do with these wheels I bought is a complete pain in the a$$.

Now I'm not sure if I'm going to make it to the Dragon...

when is the dragon? the guy that sold me the spacers said i will have them in 3 days. you could get some 5mm or 10mm spacers and run on those i would guess. you would have to measure the bolts sticking through the wheels though to see what size spacer you need.

I did the 7 threads just like Rob said along with my 15mm spacers. Work like a champ. I did the dremel thing to and gave up mid way through one bolt. Broke down and bought a $20 grinder with a $1.50 cutoff wheel and let the sparks fly.

pull off a wheel, stick stock lug thru stock wheel, measure how many threads you have or how log the protrusion is thru the stock rim. then do the same with your new rims, if it protrudes longer then figure out how much shorter you need it, take the stock lug to the mercedes dealership with a tape measure and ask them to find one X shorter. the 7 threads rule is a general car rule, not xfire specific.

btw, everyone asked for those 16" merc rims we run, so i picked up a few sets and then everyone changed their mind so there sitting ontop of our stock srt6 spare set of rims. if you guys dotn get this figured out ill have to dig the stock ones out (on the bottom of the pile, lol)

Go buy a conversion kit and change it to studs. I did this when I got my new wheels and now I can play around with spacers and not have to worry. I don't understand why these European car manufacturers still use bolts, most manufacturers did away with those in the 60s.
