Opinions about retro aftermarket rims?
So many nice newer styles here on the forum but what about "throwback" styles?
In that respect the OEM rim is hard to beat, but does anything else work?

No, I don't see this car with Torq-Thrust style rims since Chip Foose updates that look so well with the Nitrous. And for the sake of weight I've excluded the solid disc wheels from the Chrysler Atlantic and Dayton 72-spoke wire wheels (though they do look so nice on the Bugatti Atlantique and Talbot Lago).
Thanks.

I wish someone would do large version of the mini lite wheels. I would bet the pro touring crowd would buy them. And they would look pretty cool on a Crossfire as well. I think American Salt Flats would look cool as well.
I fancy a nice set of chrome spoked wheels my self, seen a few cars with then on and i must say they do look wicked

Salt Flats can be custom ordered (in chrome or anthracite coating) from American Racing.
I'm not so hopeful about the Dayton rims. Our offset may be too much. They already went through the wringer with the Solistice crowd a while back. They did show off some 17s with the BMW Z4 and the current Jag coupe, but I think their offsets are smaller than ours. I'm not sure I should spend $3700 for a set of 17" wheels heavier than our rear stock wheels
I had the origional Magnisum Minilites on my 1974 Datsun 260Z. Loved those wheels. I'd buy a set of stagered 18's for the Crossfire if someone made a replica. Squirrel Crusher

17 inch high offset wheels are available from Minilite Wheels US distributor but they're expensive

If anyone knows of any other old school rims that would work on the Crossfire please feel free to share.

I may be showing my age here, but I think those wheels are all atrocious at best. Not trying to be ruthless, but that is my opinion.
On a cobra - fitting and sharp looking, on an XF - never.

OK ... what "period-correct" wheels would you recommend for a "retro look" car?
Current road-worthy wheel styles look good on Asiian cars but don't quite match up with Crossfire's unique styling cues.
Stock base wheels come close but not quite.
The only modern wheel that comes close IMO is OZ Racing's Sardegna. While the wheel reflects some of the line action going on in the body, it might be happier on an SUV.
Positive suggestions, anyone?

There is a Foose wheel or maybe a Coddington wheel that looks like the old American Racing Wheels that used to be so big back in the late 60's- 70's. te spokes are polished and a bit more rounded. I've always wondered what a set of those (now billet) wheels would look like on our cars. And I'm still trying to decide whether or not to get my stock wheels chromed. I like the AR-1's but I also like the chrome OEM's as well.
Decision's, decision's ?

Yah I meant Chip Foose's Nitrous Grey. Sorry I can't readily find an image. Don't a few people on the forum have (at least the chrome version of) that wheel?
In my mind, Torq-Thrusts were always late 60s early 70s designs even though they were popular in California long before I started to notice cars. The only non-muscle car I liked Torq Thrusts on were Bill Thomas' Cheetah.
The "retro" period the Crossfire references IMO an earlier period like the American Racing Salt Flats.
Nitrous is a good wheel. Perfect on a Corvelle.

I am probably one of a few that do not like the OEM rims on the Crossfire, though I DO like the SRT rims.
I have been thinking about changing rims for a while, and will probably do so when I need to get a new set of tires. I am not a fan of the 'wire rims', more due to the fact that those things are a ^%^&)(*%^ to clean. I do, however, like the older, retro (okay, muscle-car-type) rims.
My husband's '69 Camaro has the American Racing Baja rims (link: http://www.amazon.com/American-Racin...1559488&sr=1-7) - Sorry; still am having a hard time adding pictures), and I have a set of Ameroican Racing Outlaw I - unfortunately, they're 14" (they were supposed to go on my '70 240Z, but I had to sell the car 2 years ago) http://www.amazon.com/American-Racin...1559458&sr=1-2).
I like how the rims on my husband's car seem to curve in from the car's wide (italian, like my hubby) hips, and feel IMHO, that something like this might also look good for the XF with the possible and major exception that I don't think that the rims would 'fit' with the shorter sidewalls of the XF tires.
I'm far from an expert, and since I doubt I could even find a staggered set that will fit the XF, it's all still in my imagination.

Nice rims ... they look a little like the road wheels on the 1955 Mercedes Gullwing.
The problem is that modern sporting cars need a greater offset than the classic wheel designs (more room for the brakes) which in this case means the faces need to curve out (not in).
I think the D-type replicas at the Split Rims site might work
And after seeing M1XFIRE's photo of the 57 Corvette with Cragar SS rims, I think the Foose Nitrous wheels might work

I would suggest some wheels, but it looks like you are going to go a totally different way than I would (check my gallery, I have 20's all the way around). Good luck in your search, as long as you like them, who cares. Be sure to post pics when you have picked out the right set and get them on....

I personally feel the car does have classic sports car looks and the best wheel for the car would be a modern wheel with some classic styling. check Anterawheels.com and you can see some modern interpretations of the classic five spike design.
