I loose about 5-8 lbs of air on my new Goodyear F1's per week. I brought the car back to Good year the manager said Crossfire Rims were being "silently recalled by Chyrsler" due to inferior enamel on them causing a poor seal.

Has anyone else heard that?

 

no i hadnt heard anything about that. but I had a slow tire leak in my rear tire and found out that I had a nail about 3 in. long stuck in my tire...haha

 

I have F1's on mine, but haven't had any issues...I air them up and down when racing it, and once in awhile it takes the tpms awhile to reset, but no leaks....haven't heard anything about enamel either...

 

Here is a suggestion that might work for you. Go to a GOOD tire place and have them remount the tire with bead sealer. It is black stuff they put where the tire and rim meet. It works great. Had it done when I had two tires remounted due to fixing curb rash. One of mine was doing the same thing - losing air.

In regards to leaks, low profile tires can be a problem.

 

Take your wheel off and go swimming. The lake red necks want care. If you swim at a friends private pool,wash the brake dust off before entering. Squirrel Crusher

 

once in awhile, I think squirrel crusher gets hit in the head by a squirrel throwing nuts...but, that could just be me...LOL...

 

Thanx sounds like the Goodyear manger is trying to get away with poor mounting. I do loose 5-8 lbs/week (measured on one front and takes about 3 weeks to loose that musch in other front. One rear tire looses 5-8 in 3 weeks in winter. All mounted by same dealer.

Will double check with Chyrsler on Monday morning.

 

what sizes are you running...it took 3 of us to mount my rears...its real easy to cut one of these tires if they aren't mounted correctly...my 2 buddies at the Goodyear store told me not to come back...LOL

Doc, I think what he is saying is to immerse that thing in water and find out exactly where the leak is. It should be an obvious bubble-trail if it is leaking that much. I have to sleep on his posts occasionally to figure out what the heck he means..

Sure sounds like a bad mount job to me. Even that much in 3 weeks is excessive. If those are new tires I would make them deal with it. Depending upon temperature and atmosphoric pressure change it is possible to lose pressure but that sounds excessive in a relatively stable condition. Going from season to season can be a problem but that is not your case. Bead sealer will work.

The tires are per owner manual's size 225 40 18 and 255 35 19 tires are new. After reading Hawk's experience with Goodyear sounds it doesn't sound like a rim problem. Rear one's really only drop suffiecient pessure in winter and here zero degrees is not uncommon. I put one of those valve stem pressure monitors on the stem for a while...NEVER DO THAT...they are plastic and when they snap off they are pains to remove. Those showed a constant pressure drop and before and after the monitors same prob.

The Goodyear manager said that the rims were made in India and the enamel wasn't right so they were leaking and being silently recalled. He stated all the Chyrs 300 rimes were being recalled and other rims made in Europe had the zinc left out of the manufacturing process. This was on saturday so I haven't had a chance to confirm it...although it is looking doubtful after reading your posts.

 

Thanx to all you for your info. I contacted 3 Chyrsler dealers including 1 I've done busines with since the 80's..None of them heard of the mysterious silent recall.

As the Firestone manager tried to charge me for valve stems...until I dragged him outside and showed himTPMS....he then claimed it was an automatic charge added by his computer..I wonder how many unnoticed stem charges or people that don't realize they had TPMS on vehicles that he ripped off. He refunded that..reluctantly.

I have contacted the Attorney General's office on these faulty mounts and mentioned the valve stem charges too. The front rims/tire never lost pressure before the new tires were put on. I hate bull poopers with a passion.

Any Connecticut people reading this...the butt hole is Norwich Goodyear Service Center.

 

I am sorry that you have to deal with jerks like this but did you get the tires fixed.
