I set my cruise control today, it worked for about 10 sec and shut off, just like what happens when you lose traction.
i sped up and tried it at a different speed, same reaction.
i moved the set lever back and forth and tried it again. this time the cruise stayed on.

any ideas on what to look for?

no new components added
no traction loss

 

It could be the switch itself, since when you moved the stalk around some and it worked again, also it could be a clutch, or brake light switch going bad or not adjusted properly.
