Default used tires

I am going to look at some used tires to install so I can go to the track and tear them up without worry. I have Hankook stock size 255 on now and will be putting 285/35 on. They have some Goodyears and Toyo's that I know of, and will see what condition they are in when I go by to inspec. I just wanted to get an opinion on used tires and If anyone had experience with Toyo brand. I looked on the web and figured that they are the Proxies TR1 Y rated but not sure.

Well I went by the used tire place to check out what they had. I picked up a brand new pair of Pr1 Toyos. One tire had a plug in it but otherwise no wear on them whatsoever. I checked the manufacture date and it was 0510, which is 5th week 2010. I grabbed them for $100, so my next question is a plug or patch better?

My understanding is that the patch is better since it is on the inside. Makes sense too....

patch is better but were is the plug? if its near the sidewall you may experience a sidewall tear if you burn rubber and put undue stress on the plug. if its in the center of the tire in the tread then you should have no issues

plug is center of tire, in one of the groves with lots of tread to go before coming close to it. I figure it will do just fine. I already love the bigger grip, for it really does make a difference. I could roast my 255 HANKOOK VENTUS S1 EVO XL, but with these bigger Toyo Proxes T1R, I may spin but will get traction quickly. I can't wait to grab a nice 60ft, for 2.15's aren't gonna cut it, lol.

Hopefully that is a plug/patch and not just a plug....heating up the tires can pull a regular plug out...the other is a patch/plug combo, it is installed from the inside of the tire and pulled thru, sealing the area and the hole

I am also in need of a set of tires. The 19in. for the back of my 2004 coupe. Not many suppliers local carry a 19in in anything and Im looking for something with road wear, not for burnouts or racing around. Just something to cruise on for 15,000 or 20,000 miles if possible. I still have the factory originals on right now.
