Default Rear half shaft question

For those that have tore into the rear driveline, I have a question.

I am getting ready to replace the rear wheel bearings and I was just looking around under the car tonight. I figured since the service manual show the halfshafts bolted up to the dif, they would be easy to drop out. But mine are not bolted up. Seems they just slide in like a transaxle style.

Do yours have bolts? Will I have to remove the lower control arms to get the halfshaft to clear the hub to remove. Just curious.

Thanks, James

There are none visable on mine. I'm guessing this piece is a cover.. I haven't taken them apart though. The pictures suck, my flash stopped working so I used a flashlight lol.

I broke a halfshaft, they come right out...After you unbolt nearly everything around it. The 2004 is different from the rest and appears to be the one pictured. They bolted in, ours just slide in. Though there might be C-clips in the center section that hold things in place. Mine didn't have them. Either way, they still just slide in. Hope that helps.
