Default tire heat question

new goodyear eagle ss drag radials on alloy rims. as nobody in the area has the equipment to properly heat cycle the tires i had to do it old school.
never doing any burnouts i run the car up to cruising speed for 10 minutes. stop and check temps with infra red temp gage. readings are a full 5 * F lower on the drivers side as opposed to the pass. side 77 and 82 * respectfully. continue to drive on the interstate with rolling speeds up to 120 mph. very squirrley with new rubber!! temps again off by 5*. now up to 90* on the driver and 95* on the pass side.
go to the high school and do figure 8's and circles for 5 minutes and drive home. jack the car up and temps are 5* off again!!! my muffler is even on the drivers side but the driver wheel is 5* lower at every check. air pressures were 40 psi on both sides checked at every stop

any ideas?

Difference in tire construction or slight pressure difference?

Rotate and then check again?

I quess I am lost....you put 40lbs in drag radials, to drive around on the street, and even at high speed for some time, practice what you used to do in the school parking to impress your friends, and then get out of the car to shoot them with a infrared gun....Geez, I hope no one was following you to witness that.

Difference in compound makeup of the tires....lol

cmon now doc cut me some slack! i looked for 2 weeks to find some company that could do the cycle on a machine, none to be found.
40 lbs for the street to stretch the rubber sidewalls, higher than norm speeds to build heat in the tires and my figure 8's were done in 1st gear at bless than 10 mph with nobody around. my temp gage is a small pocket unit.
how else would you cycle the tires ? everything i have read says if not heat cycled the lifespan of the tires could be cut in half and as expensive as they are i want all the life i can get

You know I was kidding....but just imagining you doing all that with a patrol car nearby watching would be priceless....I always heard about doing that, but in the old days, you cycled them at the track...
One of my many jobs when I first got out of school, I worked a short time for Firestone, operating a "banbury", a machine that mixed the rubber compound...it was science, it was like backing a cake, each tire is always going to be a little different, especially if "Fast" Eddie didn't measure something right.....

i gotcha doc! guess im a little dense today! the thing with doing it at the track is i wont see it until bob and i line up for the t&t prior to the import showdown. cant let him have any edge on me as he will clean my clock!! my only hope is the 7 lbs per side weight diff and he's older so i hope to catch him nappin at the lights!!

i have never checked the temps of the tires before just the psi, so it surprised me how much diff there was. thinking the psi will climb differently as well at high speeds. really thinking of this when i go to a standing mile and see speeds in excess of 150mph!

Talking Re: tire heat question

Swap the tires side to side to prove that one side is hotter cause your toe in and alignment are not straight. Tire rack does heat cycling and I dont believe it makes a difference, but that is me.Woody

woody i would think you nailed it on the head but i had a full 4 wheel alignment last sat and i have the adj. camber bars in the rear. everything was adj. to specs.
as for the heat cycling the cost to ship to tirerack and the time involved wasnt going to work for me. im racing on sun

it may not mean anything i just thought it was interesting the diff in the temps
