Default BAS ESP Warning Light

I've read most all post and gathered that no one really has the silver bullet cure for this situation, it's more of a car by car cure. I did notice that most having this warning light have other symtoms like the cruise control not working. I tried the steering wheel lock to left then to right back to center and it did not seem to help. However, for some reason this did...

After 4 days of driving with this light on, I noticed it would give me about 200 yds sometimes before lighting up BAS ESP. I noticed that when lite, my cruise control did not work. I decided to try something, after starting the engine without the BAS ESP light lite, I carefully put my 04 xfire in gear and started to drive w/o touching the brake (usually when the light would lite up) and got up to a speed of 40mph then engaged the cruise control. Drove a few miles like this w/o braking. When I did brake.. NO MORE Waring light! It's now been about 4 days with alot of stop and go driving and the light has not reoccurred. Not sure what this might mean, but in the world of electronic sensors and computers... maybe this reset something. Any thoughts from anyone would be interesting and welcomed .

Talking Re: BAS ESP Warning Light

Many things set it off, I get it to come and go cause Iam running shorter rear tires, either 18" or 17" rims and the speed sensors kick it off regularly. It does not affect my ABS operation so I dont care, for autocrossing I switch off my YAW sensor which really lights up the dash. Woody

Hello CaptDave,

My symptoms are very similar, I may try this out, the only trouble is trying to find a clear stretch of road long enough to turn on the Cruise Control without having to brake inbetween!

Also Waldig, I am running the OEM rims, however the previous owner has put ultra low profile tyres on the rear 275/30/19's would this cause an issue with the wheel sensors too?

Regards

AR

I tried this morning, pulled up on a clear stretch of road, did the reset to get rid of the light and started moving, got to 25 mph and the light came on before I could turn the cruise control on!

I hate to turn to the stealership, but looks like this is the only way to find out what causing the light.

Has your light remained off CaptDave?

AR,
So far my light has stayed off. Knock on wood!

When my light was coming on, it would do like yours is doing, but once in a while, it would give me more distance or time before it came on. I waited for one of those opportunities and that is when I set the cruise control. Give it another try, just watch for the opportunity.. then again, mine and yours may be caused by different problems. BTW, my 04 is completely stock.

I think these cars are really women that have come back to haunt us... and you know complicated they can be.

Good Luck!

I just dont pay the light any mind. Sometimes I will see it several times with in one week yet I may go for months and never see it.

CaptDave,

I will give it another try, as soon as I find another clear stretch of road - not that easy living in the middle of London!

Its booked in for the stealership tomorrow in any case so hopefully they can find the issue without too much hassle.

jlindsey86 - because it takes out the traction control and the cruise control when it comes on I want to get it sorted, also the light does bug me _ I want my baby to be running right

Quick update

I took the car to the stealership on Saturday, they fiddled around with the car for 2 hours and could not determine the fault. The guy working on the car said he kept resetting a fault code, something to do with a failure to engage ESP, but no matter how many times he reset it, it came back up.

They said I need to book it in to spend some time with their specialist electrician at £130 per hour! He's on holiday for 2 weeks, so will wait till then. At least they didn't charge me anything on Saturday.

Just looked at the paperwork and it actually says: 1529-101 Preloading for ESP not available

not sure if that means anything to anyone.

AR,
Mine stayed off for several days, then came back on while driving to work. After work, stared up, it was off, but then in a short time it came back on. It repeated this for a couple of drives until I again engaged the cruise control before the light had a chance to come on.. and now it has stayed off after several drives. From what your error report says.. this sounds like a computer problem or program failure problem or maybe there is a board with bad solder joints like the RCM board that is causing the "Mystery No Start" problem. It would be interesting to investigate that possiblity if anyone has an idea if and where that board might be located. That might explain the coming and going of the warning light. Just a thought.
Keep us posted,
CaptDave.
