Default Necessary Run Flat Tires?

I was looking into purchasing a set of new tires from my local "Dunn Tire" wheel/tire shop and when I asked them for a specific Continental brand tire the person I was talking to on the phone said that Crossfires come standard with runflat tires and it is that particular shop's policy that they will not put regular low profile tires on a car that comes standard with runflat tires.

I was wondering if anybody could tell me if this is true - that crossfires are issued runflats from the manufacturer and that most "legitimate" shops will only install another set of runflats?

The guy didn't know what he was talking about. Crossfires never came with runflats. In development, Chrysler tested the car with runflats and found it drove terrible with them.

BTW, when we purchased our first Crossfire (used), the salesman said it had runflats. There are lots of misinformed people out there about these fine cars.

I assumed he didn't know what he was talking about because I had never heard of the crossfire coming standard with them. I just wanted to make sure.

Does anyone have any suggestions as far as what the best HIGH performance all-season tires would be that our cars would benefit from the most?

My Mini Cooper MC40 came with run flats. The special wheels and tires are in the garage, Replaced by standard wheels and tires. Run flats suck. Gary

I was looking at Continental's Extreme Contact DWS. Any thoughts on those tires?

That's what I just bought. ... well, I ordered them. They came in today, I need to stop in and get them installed.

From all my research, these are your best choice.

I came up with the same results also. Let us know what you think of them once you get them mounted and on the road.

Costco tried to sell me on run flats as well. I had to actually bring the car up to the entrance to prove to them that it did not have them, just to get a price quote on non run flats. There must be some database somewhere that the shops are using that is incorrect.

I have those on the front of my roadster currently. So far, I am highly impressed for an "all season" tire. They handled exceptionally well on the Tail of the Dragon meet about a month ago.

You should have looked that weasel in the eye and asked him, "So, just
why is it then, that the Crossfire comes standard with a can of "Fix-a-Flat"
under the cargo mat?

I put up a separate thread on it so I can follow up in the future.

Summary - initial impression is, I love them!

That's great to hear seeing as I just ordered some today. How are they regarding wear?

Glad you like them. I just ordered a set of my own today and your enthusiasm is making me anxious to get mine on and try them out! I'll stay tuned in with your updates on the tires on the other thread as well.

These guys seemed so clueless, I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't know what a can of "fix-a-flat" was.
