Saw this on the Honda forums. It's a popular JDM thing apparently. It reduces weight and inertia so VTEC can hit better. It also works well with the downforce their spoilers give to the rear of the car, so they can drift FWD cars more effectively...Just like running steelies to get better times.

 

Caption suggestion:

Brake O Special: Brakes front and rear just $99 (then in small fine print: Please Note: Your brakes may need additional repairs at additional cost).

 

I have never seen anything like that. It looks like it got brittle and just flew to pieces.
