Interesting info on tire balancing
I have these:
Spin-Caps - Locking Valve Stem Caps Now
MMZTimelord referenced them in an old thread. The dammed things are heavy AND I have the 65 MPH shimmy.
I feel the easiest test would be to remove them and go for a spin.
Or make sure they are in place when they are balanced. I've never asked-dummy!

No doubt proper wheel balancing is an art. At work we use a place called Shoreline Motoring (Shoreline Motoring - At Shoreline Motoring, our commitment is to provide the highest quality products and services to all of our customers.) in Huntington Beach, CA and they are absolutely fantastic. I had my TSW Doningtons mounted on the Crossfire there and the balance is perfect at every speed I've driven thus far. Our COO has a 2009 BMW M3 Coupe and had a set of Vorsteiner wheels installed a while back. Not sure why, but he didn't go to Shoreline to have them mounted/balanced and he fought balance issues for several months that the original installer could never figure out. One trip to Shoreline and all is well. They charge a bit more, but they take a lot of care in how they handle everything and deal almost exclusively with high end Euro iron.
Glad you posted that.. Crossfire wasn't an issue with new tires.. But the Miata always had that "65 mph" vibration! Never knew what the deal was just accepted it. Put a cross brace on the rear.. made an aluminum brace for the front.. and always wondered if adding the roll bar and tower brace would alleviate it. Seems like the tires-wheels would "sync" up at times and be worse than the normal. Guess I'll try the "dual lock nut" on one wheel trick now!
Interesting read. Longer ago than I care to admit, I put a set of American Racing wheels with new Goodyear GT's on my Z 28. I also had locking lug nuts. They never could get them to stop the vibration that happened at 65mph. I always blamed the damn wheels. It never occurred to me that the source of the vibration could have been the locking lug nuts until I read that article. At least those lug nuts saved the wheels from being stolen one time.
I guess my tire guy is doing a good job, I don't have a shimmy...until I put on the 5mm spacers...then all hell breaks loose around 65mph
