Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus
Re: Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus
Did some research and decided on the Continental ExtremeContact DW.
I don't care about tread life and it sounds like these will securely plant the car on the pavement.
I tried the Falken 452's on the rear and though they performed fine on the NA, and they're quiet and smooth but they have this "recoil" effect when quiickly changing lanes and I've nearly lost control a couple of times.
Discount Tire has been great and they are going to exchange the tires for the difference of the purchase price only even though I've been driving on them for 3 months.
I ordered a set of 4 as the original Mich's on the front still have plenty of tread, they do pull sliightly to the riight.
They'll be in on tuesday but I won't have time until saturday.
Hopefully this is a good decision.

Re: Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus
My coupe came with these on there...I am having a hard time wearing them out, so I can get summer compound tires... They did well at the dragon last year, but not quite as well as summer compound tires...
Re: Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus
I had them for about 20k before the rear tires were down to the wear bars. Fronts were still good. Went to DWS and they are much lighter and while they dont grip as well as the Michelins they are proving to be worth twice their value in the wear, noise, and ride quality marks.

At any rate, I'm really hoping the Conti's have what I'm looking for, especially minimum lateral flexing for quick lane changes without flipping the car over.
Re: Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus
Yes they were AS plus. You will notice the weight difference in steering response. The two tires handle about the same, still prefer PS2 overall but the DWS is a good compromise. Certainly not a track tire and much like the DW they get a bit squirmy at high track temps but on the day to day driving they are great tires with predictable handling.
Re: Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus
Just had the Continental ExtremeContact DW 's installed and they really feel different than the old tires. Difinately less lateral flex so this appears to be what I was looking for.
I've only driven a few miles in traffic so haven't really had a chance to challenge them but will keep you posted if you're interested.
I'm taking the large aluminum tube to Lubbock and will be back friday to really try them out.

Re: Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus
After driving a spirited 50 miles on my new Continental ExtremeContact DW.
I can endoorse them as long as you're not looking for a hard-core racing tire.
They do not have the dangerous "recoil" effect that the Falken's have.
The car feels firmly planted to the asphalt and quick, high speed lane changes are done confidently.
I'ld imagiine on a closed track where .010 of a second counts, you could upgrade a notch but it would only be a notch. These have a very good value/performance ratio.
