OMG! Brakes
OMG! Brakes
OMG as in "Oh my G-d" are these huge! These are of course AMG brakes off a 2008 CLK63. I've been looking for nice clean set for a while now and finally found what I'm looking for. Just got 'em today! The calipers and rotors are in great shape as the car they're off of only had 24,000 miles on it. The front rotors are 360mm (14.2") 2-piece floating discs and the rear are 330mm one-piece rotors. The front calipers are 6-pot, rears are 4-pot. The set is a direct bolt-on to our cars minus trimming the rear heat shields in order to fit the massive calipers. So, my question to the forum is - Should I paint the calipers red?

Only a ricer would paint these red. Keep them OEM.
Re: OMG! Brakes
Caliper covers scream - RICER to me.
Silver AMG calipers scream - COOL to me.

Re: OMG! Brakes
A real ricer would put covers on these beautiful calipers.
Get it?

I'd hang them over my fire place just like they are.

Re: OMG! Brakes
I've been searching for a clean set for months via ebay, craigslist, mbworld, etc. I ran in to these on ebay about 2 weeks ago, payed 2k for 'em. The fact is, a used set of CLK63 or SLK55 brakes are quite rare to find, but will pop up from time to time, especially on ebay and mbworld.org. So you gotta be quick as they're usually gone the same day they are listed. The sets for a SL55/63, CLS55/63, S55/63 are quite easy to find. Take a look at ebay right now and you'll find a few sets available. However, these will require modification/brackets to install on our cars.
Re: OMG! Brakes
Nice to know you're keeping my seats warm I guess I could sell the brakes to you. Let me think about it....neh I will sell you my stockers though, hehe...
Re: OMG! Brakes
I paid 2k which seems to be a good deal on these, especially for the condition they're in. This included all 4 calipers and rotors. A new set will be well over 5k. The front rotors are $1,000 each so not looking forward to replacing them in the future..
Re: OMG! Brakes
I'll trade you a supercharger pulley for them. Nice find.
Re: OMG! Brakes
Thank you for your opinions, guys! Here are a few pics I gathered of red calipers to aid in the discussion. My opinion - they don't look ricer to me. That red C63 is hottttt!! Anyway, I'll install 'em as is, probably next week, to see how they look and will take some photos to share with you guys. We'll see what the consensus will be..
