I noticed that when I back up out of my driveway (uphill but may not matter) I hear a clicking sound from the rearend. I do not know if it is related to the brakes or the rear end or some interlock system? I have only noticed it in my driveway in the morning. Car is a 2004 Limited with 30K on it now. I noticed the clicking a year ago but it seems louder now than before. It is gone when I put it into 1st and start driving (6 speed). Original brakes still in, changed all fluids when I bought it and no signs of any problem with rear end fluid. Someone must have had this noise. I have found all my other problems listed on this forum. Thanks.

 

Check your half shafts.

 

lift up the car and turn the rear wheels in neutral

stock rims and lug bolts?

 

Heard the same from my half shafts in the 300-SRT when the driveline loaded up in reverse or drive. My XF makes the same noise. Depending on what your experience is (and how bad the sound is) it may be nothing more than an annoyance.

-I'd start with the low-hanging fruit, as Rob suggested.

 

My '07 has always clicked when reversing...but only after washing it or in rain. The slightest amount of pressure on the brake makes the noise stop. A couple of mechanics have looked at it and could not find anything wrong.
