How wide on stock wheels and suspension
How wide on stock wheels and suspension
OK guys, I know there has been a ton of discussion about putting wider wheels on the Crossfire’s and I think I’ve read to many discussions because I’m confused. There are discussions about needing spacer’s and being lowered and not lowered and how some tires are actually bigger than others on and on. If I invest in tires I want to be as sure as possible they will fit so this is what I would like to do.
I have a 2005 SRT6 Roadster with stock rims, not lowered, no spacers. I like the Bridgestone Potenza S-04 Pole position tire and I would like to put 285/35/19 in the rear and 235/40 /18 in the front. From what I’ve read I believe this is a safe bet but is it? Are the Bridgestone’s a fatter tire than others and might it rub on the suspension or when the front tires turn? Would I need a spacer? Could I go wider in front and should I. How will larger tires affect the handling?
Thanks for the help

I ran Goodyear eagle F1's for 7k miles (all they lasted) they had terrible grip .
285\35r19
On stock rim with no spacers and did not have any issues rubbing.
I have 275\35r19 g-max's ATM and love them on back. Great wet and dry traction.
I run stock size an front. And like a stiff sidewall on front.

Re: How wide on stock wheels and suspension
I just installed the 235/40-18 & 275/35-19 Bridgestone S-04s on the SRT6 only because I couldn't pass on the deal I got. Have the same size tires on my Limited but they're General G-Maxs. The Generals actually look beefier on the rear then the Bridgestones. The 285s would probably be a better bet with the Bridges. No need to go wider up front or you'll definitely get rubbing. I would have rather installed the G-Max as they have been fantastic on the Limited. Over 40,000 miles and still going strong. Twice the mileage of any other make I've run, and still quiet and sticky w/ plenty of tread left.
Also, no spacers and not lowered...all stock.

Re: How wide on stock wheels and suspension
I have stock suspension and the front shows signs of rubbing running the recommended 225/40 - 18. I drive it like a sports car and have been driving a race course as well. I would not go larger on the front. The rears have plenty of room. I run 285/30 - 19 on the rears with no problems other than scouring the underpart of the rear bumper with sand and road trash being thrown up as you drive. That will happen with any tire you run. I have two sets of rims and tires; One for the track and GTG and the other for daily driving. Both run the same size tires, but the track tires are sticky summer and the daily are all season.

I know what my next set of tires are going to be now, thanks to you buddy. I've seen people run the Gmax's around the forum and have been leaning towards them. Now I think when the fronts finally wear out I'm gonna switch to the Gmax series. I don't track the car, so the nice tread hold over time is more appealing to me. At 117 bucks each for the fronts, that's a steal.
Re: How wide on stock wheels and suspension
I like the look of the 285's but I see allot of people going with the 30's instead of the 35's.
If I look at the differences it would be about the same diameter so the revolutions per mile and speedometer will be about the same but I’m going to lose some sidewall. Will this give me a harsher ride or am I over analyzing this? There also has been some talk about a slower acceleration with the wider tire is the 30’s instead of the 35’s affect this?
