Question Tire and Rim Conversion Chart

Just curious but someone made a remark to me. They wanted to know if it would be possible to replace rims with smaller one like 17s Front and 18s Back or 18s all around. The add thicker tires without compromizing the speedometer readings. Boils down to:
1. Can it be done
2. Where can they get a size conversion chart
3. How would it affect handling.
4. How the heck would it look? (I think it might look a little strange)

Thanks
Dave S.

If you look in the manual, where it talks about putting snow tires on, you have to replace the rear rims with 18's like on the front, and then put a set of 4 18" snow tires. I'm not sure I'd want to put 17's on the front.

I have seen people here on the forum who've put 19's on the front and 20's on the rear. Try a search for "foose" for some of those threads.

1. You could go to 18's all around and user a taller(more sidewall) tire to keep the overall diameter the same on the back. That way the speedometer wouldn't be affected. I'm not sure about 17's on the front. You'd have to make sure the wheel would clear the brakes.
3. Going to a smaller wheel and higher profile tire will allow more flex in the sidewall which will adversely affect handling. It probably wouldn't affect it enough to make much difference in normal driving though.

luke our front tires are 25'1 inches tall, so you can go with a 225-45-17 at 25', as for the rear our tires are 26'1,so you can 255-40-18,at 26'0 or 295-35-18 at 26'1, this should be fine to run on the crossfire but i do not suggest! you will lose all the handling capability, that makes the crossfire stick like glue to the road............hope this helps..............

I agree with babeviper - Keep the tire diameter the same and you can run a smaller rim without effecting CPU, Speedo Etc. I have read someone here is running a 17" wheel with snow tires. I do not know how much smaller one can go in rim size... yet.

Thanks, I'll pass it on to him. I still think it might look a little strange.

Now, correct me on this since I'm planning to replace my wheels with 19's and 20's. For the 20" X 9" the tire size is 255/30ZR 20 and for the 19" X 8" we use 235/35 ZR 19.

I'm not sure if I had it right but your input is well appreciated.

cyril, your right on track with the sizes you have chosen.the 255/30/20 is 26.1 just like the stock 255/35/19,as for the 235/35/19 it is 25.5-verses 25.1 for the 225/40/18.....................
