Noticed this semi-clear plastic-like discharge from the center logo area of both front tires. Wondering best way to remove the residue after scraping off most of the substance. The car sits in an un-airconditioned garage for three months every summer in SW Florida which likely has caused this problem (although this is the first time this has happened - bought car new in 2005)
Try some paint thinner the type you use to clean brushes coated with oil base paint. If the material is gooey try removing some with a small plastic scraper.
What was the original position of the wheel before you moved it? This will indicate the location or direction it came from. Most bearing greases will flow at around 250-300 degrees F and usually are not translucent. My guess is the material came from something overhead. Was the car covered with some type of plastic material that was tied down with plastic ties? The temperature in the un-AC'd building probably got very high and melted whatever. Just some guesses.
WD-40 is effective at cleaning certain types of residue, such as sticky label adhesive, grease, grime, etc. It works by dissolving or softening the residue, which then allows it to be wiped away. For some types of residue, you may need to clean up the WD-40's own waxy film afterward with soap and water or a solvent like acetone

I've never seen that before! You might want to replace those center cap logos, with new ones.
Here's how I replaced mine: LINK - Wheel center cap logo replacement Unfortunately, the company I got mine from is no longer in business. We have a fellow Crossfire owner who makes decals, stickers, etc...
She might be able to make a set for you. Her website is: AnnettesLastingImpressions.com
appreciate the replies. This stuff is nasty and with considerable effort the bulk of it can be scraped off with a plastic chisel-like tool. Still working on finding the best way to clean off the residue after scraping. The discharge definitely originated from the logo area, where I suspect the material used to fix the logos in place has deteriorated over time due to heat. The logo discs are covered with a layer of blackened similar material which has darkened slowly over the years. The semi-clear discharge comes from beneath the logos.
Those are aftermarket center caps logo, could be due to age deterioration.
The hubcaps and logos are original equipment (at least they came with the car when I bought it new) - not sure what you mean by aftermarket, if you refer to my Crossfire.

Because the original logo has become dark like the adhesive holding them in, it looks like they are the aftermarket style. The black ones with either a Mercedes logo, or the silhouette of a Crossfire.
