Default Now, the REST of the story

I just discovered something neat... With it being so hot lately, I have been using my A/C 100% of the time. This isn't a problem in and of itself, but I began to notice that the A/C was starting to get a case of bad breath because of all the condensation that builds inside of the ducts after you turn the car off. I would get a blast of hot, moist, bad-smelling air the next time I got in the car and turned the A/C back on.

So I got to thinking about ways to stop this, and then it hit me. The REST function! Now, before I get out of the car I hit the REST button, which makes the A/C blower run at low speed for about 15 minutes and dries things out nicely. Now when I get back in and fire-up the A/C the bad smell is gone and the air is nice and dry.

Thumbs up Re: Now, the REST of the story

I noticed the smell also, my top is down 95% of the time...but lately in our area it has 95+ the last couple of days. I will try out your solution next time I go out, my AC has been used maybe 4 times since I brought the car in 2004.

Yes, REST runs for about 15 minutes and then automagically shuts off.

bobs - you can also just shut the ac off about 3 or 4 minutes before you shut the car off and it does the same thing. I did that with my PT's and they never had that smell at all.

Patpur, I guess I could do that too, but that means that I would have to suffer 4 or five minutes without the air conditioned goodness that my Crossfire can provide.

We've had our xfire for 2 weeks. Call me stupid, but where is the REST feature -- Thanks.

Man...my heart almost stopped when you said that...3 or 4 min. without AC when its 115 here in Arizona and the leather on my seats would be permanently attached to the ol' backside.

It's the second, secret feature of the A/C recirculate button that will allow the blower motor to run for a while after the car has been turned off. Check your owner's manual for full details. In fact, if you haven't done so, read it from cover to cover. This car has a lot of hidden features that make life better -- you just have to know where they are!

The 3-5 minutes you have just the fan on its still blowing cold air, more than 5 you got it right but 3 to 5 you really shouldn't feel it. If not like bobs said, use the rest button. The main idea is to get the condensation out of your air conditioning system. If this gets bad enough you'll smell it everytime you turn on your heat so its good idea to use some kind of preventative measures in the summer. Its pretty darn hot and humid here too but Arizona its not.

Actually right now we are in our monsoon season so the humidity is fairly high. I think I will start using the rest button while the humidity is up.

Thanks for the great piece of information bobs. Now I am going to try that REST button. Next week i'll replace the pollen filter. That should care of all the foul odor from my XF.
