Default Rim/Tire Replacement

I have owned my Crossfire 9 months now and still enjoy driving it. My only disappointment with the car is an experience I had shortly after buying it. I ran over a road hazard that punctured both the tire and the rim. Replacing both was an incredible hassle and far more expensive than I would have ever imagined. I live in the DFW area and the local dealer could find neither the tire or the rim. It finally took a week to locate both and the cost was a whopping $1,200. After this experience and driving without a spare, has made me totally paranoid about taking the car out of the DFW metro area. A flat could easily leave you completely stranded.[/b]

Yep, just something one has to be prepared for when buying this and other vehicles that do carry a spare. I too had to replace a tire back in Jan... $484.00 out the door mounted and balanced on top of an eight day wait for the tire. I checked with Michelin not too far back and the avalibilty of Pilot Sport II tires remains low and hard to come by. Many in Michelin will tell you this tire should never have been put on the XF without an adequate consumer supply in reserve. I have noticed many of the newer cars are coming with the all weather Continentals here in Phoenix... go figure.

reason for the lack of availability on the ps2's is because bmw is running them on the new x5, and they have over-ordered nationwide, causing a backorder problem (i run a tire shop, so ya)

I don't know about the x5... what I do know there has been a serious lack of PS 2's ever since the XF was introduced early last summer.

PS2s seem to be in stock ($299 for the rears) continuosly at Tirerack. So they're out there, just not sitting in your local garage, dealership, or tire center. Of course that doesn't help much if you're on the road stranded away from home.

I had a punctured tire 600 miles from home on my first day of Crossfire ownership. The hole was fairly large so the sealant didn't work. Fortunately, I was able to call a 24 hr repair center to come out and plug the tire.

Would I travel a long distance in my Crossfire now? Yes. But I will make sure to carry a tire plug kit with me since in-tread punctures are probably the most common cause of flat tires. Replacing the empty tire sealant bottle costs much more than plugging a tire anyway.

My next set will be a set of Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 (Max Performance Summer).

I looked into the Good Year F-1's and posted about them and some other tires last Jan. I'm going with with the F-1's also. IMO the PS 2's are too expensive and are still in very short supply and I don't want the hassle of ordering online and then finding someone to put them on.

Does the one up size You are talk about still use the stock 19" rim???

Don't know about just with two wheels being different, it does with larger tires all the way around. No big deal if it does, change out the little plastic gear in the transmission or check your mileage and speed against some highway mile markers and adjust your speed from then on accordingly.

Will 255/35/19 tires fit on the front of a 2006 crossfire. I would love to have the tire sizes match. Hopefully will be cheaper than mixed tires

Wow, nothing like bringing a nine year old thread back from the dead. I don't think that you will be able to fit the rears on the front without some major rub when you turn the steering wheel. Many have fit 19" rims on the front, but not with the same width.

Some have run 18's all way around and even 255's x 18 on the front, not sure of the rim width. If you are lowered you'll have rubbing issues that you might be able to solve with a hot air gun.

I know, as I tried it. You can't - the tire sticks out about 1/2 " past the fender well and has about 1 " clearance up to the lip.
I suppose if you drove only on a billiard table, you'd be OK.
