Default Transmission Fluid

Sigh, I'm finally going to do my transmission service. I've been dreading this only because I know it can be a very messy job. Where can I find the best deal on Transmission fluid and is there a "recommended" cheaper alternative to the MB liquid platinum we have to put in there? 9 Quarts/Liters right?

MB 236.10 sheet

MB 236.10 Flüssigkeitsgetriebeöl (ATF) A 001 989 21 03 Daimler AG
Mercedes-Benz Getriebeöl Blatt 236.10 Daimler AG
Shell ATF 3403-M 115

(So there is only one non-Mercedes fluid on this current list).

MB 236.12 sheet

Aral Getriebeol ATF M12
Fuchs Titan ATF 3353 Fuchs
MB 236.12 ATF 3353 A 001 989 45 03 Daimler AG
Mercedes-Benz Automatik-Getriebeöl Blatt 236.12 Daimler AG
Mobil ATF 3353
Shell ATF 3353

(So there are four non-Mercedes fluids on this current list).

MB 236.14 sheet

Fuchs TITAN ATF 4134
Fuchs TITAN EG ATF 134
MB 236.14 ATF NAG2VSport A 001 989 68 03 Daimler AG
Mercedes-Benz Automatik-Getriebeöl Blatt 236.14 Daimler AG
Mercedes-Benz Getriebeöl Blatt 236.14 Daimler AG
Mobil ATF 134
Shell ATF134

(So there are four non-Mercedes fluids on this current list).
So this is these are the types of fluids. He uses the Valvaline Maxcare, I'm more than happy to use Mobil. Though I don't want to damage my transmission because I wanted to save a buck.

Steve will tell you it's not his car, but to use OEM Benz.

As hard as you run yours, I could concur.

Just be sure to bring a shiny green drip pan.

I'll bring the jokes.

If you put in 9 quarts and it takes 9 liters then you have put in 1/2 liter too much. That 1/2 liter plus the fluid that stays in there means it's overfilled.
Just saying.

Oh I'm sorry. For some reason I seem to think that everyone will know exactly what I mean when I write something. How much does it take? 9 Quarts? Liters?

Go to the SRT-6 workshop manual and start on page 21 - 307.
Then read Tighed1's post. https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...tml#post455674
From the Shop manual.
Add the following initial quantity of Shell 3403 to transmission:
a. If only the fluid and filter were changed, add 5.0 L (10.6 pts.) of transmission fluid to the transmission.
b. If the transmission was completely overhauled, the torque converter was replaced or drained, and the cooler was flushed, add 7.7 L (16.3 pts.) of transmission fluid to the transmission.
Check the transmission fluid level. (Refer to 21 - TRANSMISSION/TRANSAXLE/AUTOMATIC NAG1/FLUID - STANDARD PROCEDURE), and adjust as required.

I just paid $20/ US quart (946 ml) for Mopar ATF at the Chrysler stealer in Niagara Falls NY. Part # 05127382AB. Label has MB-236.14 Crossfire/Sprinter printed on it. I'd be interested to know where it can be had at a better price?

Thirteen will let you have his old fluid for free. Save the planet one liter at a time.

It will only take about 5 quarts when you just change fluid and filter.

When I did mione, this is what I found to be the best "cheap" alternative:

Shell 3353 is 236.12 certified. I bought a case at $9.26/qt. The container doesn't have any "generic" ATF statements. It specifically states: Meets MB 236.12 spec for use in MB 7-speed transmissions. Also for use in older 5-speed auto trans. Backwards-compatible with 236.10 fluid.

It appears this is the OEM fluid just not in MB packaging.

Thanks Steve Local dealer wanted $23.15/litre and $12.50 (plus 13%) for the problem connector, $9.30 for the connector south of the ditch. I decided to buy x's 2 in case the Limited started to leak, so I ended up saving a few bucks.

MB now recommends 236.14 specification ATF in these transmissions.

23614WIS-1.jpg

current approvals-
MB 236.14 - Automatic transmission fluids (ATF, Specification 236.14) - Mercedes-Benz Specifications for Operating Fluids

Fuchs Titan 4134 meets 236.14 requirements. http://www.opieoils.co.uk/pdfs/New-F...N-ATF-4134.pdf

It’s relatively inexpensive from RM European.
