The only oil I have been using in my German cars has been Amsoil. And as usual, not on the list. According to Amsoil, the 5w-40 meets the Mercedes Benze specs too. Go figure. That's ok. I swear by the oil and have 500+ races at the drag strip with it.

Advance, Autozone, NAPA and O'Reilly frequently have sales where you buy 5 quarts and get a free filter. Most likely, they won't have a decent filter for the Crossfire, but you can just get the free one for one of your other cars .....
I just bought a case of 6 M1 0/40 at NAPA for $32, so at that rate, $64 will get you enough for an oil change, and you will be halfway there for the next one ....

I guess the Mobil 1 Diesel oil works if your engine calls for the following spec ? :
Caterpillar ECF-2, ECF-3
Re: Latest MB 229.3 & 229.5 approved oils!
The dealer that sold me the car changed the oil with PennZoil 5w30 synth. I pointed out that wasn't an approved MB oil and they scoffed. I've since been using only Mobile 1 0w40. I must say though, the car ran much more quietly with the 5w30. My wife hates the sound of the engine. She calls it a 'wind up toy'. Now that I just ran out of my extended warranty...I'm going back to 5w30 synth. If it blows up I'll post pictures...but it won't.

Well, my Mobile 1 5W50 finally arrived, almost two weeks after I ordered it (which is fine withe me, TRY to find the stuff in a store!) With shipping, it came to $7.78 a quart which I did not think was all that bad, since a quart of Mobile 1 0W40 at Autozone is $8.99 + 7% tax. Thanks to AVLube.com !

I have been running my car kinda hard ( probably why my EGR is plugged up, blew a lot of crud outta the combustion chambers and it got into the EGR valve). So, I'm going to Mobile 1 5W50 - but if it was not on the list, I would not use it.
Im new to my 2004 coupe and was going to change my oil. Just for the heck of it I asked my mechanic ( who also races) and who also recommends AMSOIL euro syn 5W-40. Says he's seen the inside of engines on MOBIL 1 and that it's not all that good. Everyone else is saying "it's not on the list" AMSOIL is saying it is? Or is not but "meets" the specs am I right? Getting ready to do mine and just want to do the right thing. This oil stuff is never ending so I feel like I'm lost...
