The two batteries that come from Interstate are 37lb and 45lb, The Braille batteries have a great power/weight ratio in the smaller sizes and the larger batteries are just plain powerful.

This may be useful info for folks looking for an OEM replacement battery. Acme Battery sells Johnson Control Industries made Group 48 Batteries for the Crossfire with a black case. White case batteries are not available. The case mesurements and design right down to the handles are identical to my white cased Varta battery that was supplied when new. I'm told the battery specs are identical to the white cased Varta and Acme is a wholesale supplier to many car dealers including Chrysler. The red positive terminal cap and white vent cap are not included however the case has the appropriate holes for them with the same stickers on the battery top excluding the Varta label. I was told the battery is made in Europe. The warranty is 48 months, 2 years free replacement and 2 years pro-rated. The price is $98 CDN. http://www.absolutebattery.com/auto.htm

Buy a fresh battery, one manufactured for less than six months. Batteries have a stamped date code or a sticker showing the month and year of manufacture, most codes start with the letter indicating the month: A for January, B for February, and so on. The digit denotes the year: 0 for 2000, say. For example, B8 stands for February 2008. You may find batteries with another sticker as well, this sticker shows the date when it was last re-charged.
According to my sources in Canada, Interstate recharges and changes the stickers on the batteries until they are sold. It is the date code molded or the label on the battery case that is to be taken into account, not the latter peel off sticker. Batteries on sale are likely to be old stock.
The last battery I purchased was 13 months old when i got it.

Thought I'd add this so maybe someone else would benefit. I just serviced my battery in a 2007 coupe and it took 4 cups of distilled water. Maybe this could help with dead batteries. Follow instructions in the owners' manual.

My manual says the battery is permanently sealed and no water can be added, it is maintenance free. In your climate the electrolyte can disappear faster due to the heat. Also if the charging rate is too high it can boil off.
Is your battery a low maintenance battery rather than a no maintenance battery? Low maintenance batteries can come with an indicator to show low levels of the fluid.

I have a 2007 Limited Xfire coupe and it has the OEM battery. It allows you to unscrew the caps and fill the cells with water. Kinda like the old batteries except it vents from the front. Nice design. You have to remove the hold down to get at one of the battery cells.

I found out that these batteries are Low Maintenance not No Maintenance, big difference.
My battery was installed in Nov '03 and it is still well up over the plates on the four that I can get at easily. Yours was really low, maybe the heat or over charging.
Everyone should check to avoid premature failure.
Good point and it should be a point to check regularly.
I will add this to thread.

My dad just picked up a battery for his '04 yesterday.
This was one he got.
http://www.batteriesplus.com/pc-3649...0SLI48-LI.aspx

When you go into the store locator @ the bottom it had a $5.00 off.
http://www.batteriesplus.com/store_details/290.aspx
This is for the store by me, try it for one by you.

For anyone who may need a battery, I think it's a good one !!

Looks like we convinced him that his battery was due for a replacement.
Glad he has a new one now. No worries

FYI -- Just stopped in to the nearby Big City's Sam's Club. They list the "Group 48" battery for the Crossfire, and they had a few black-cased "Everready" 700 CCA branded ones on the shelf for US$63! And with thick coats of dust on their tops. Size/shape looked correct. Didn't look at them closer for manufacturing dates. I'd guess these were made by Johnson Controls.

The catalog did not give numbers (only "-", = n/a) for their higher-end batteries for the Crossfire.

Needed and bought a new battery today. Firestone/coupon deal, but when we got there to pick this one up:

Interstate Mega-Tron
Plus #MTP-H6
,

10.94" x 6.88" x 7.5", this has the correct post positions. No spacer required. Side vent. Double handles. White case, 640CCA, 800CA, 72 Ah, reserve capacity (RC) 121 minutes, weight 46 lbs. Perfect fit, and identical to OEM battery, made by same Corporation - Johnson Controls. Free replacement for 30 months, 85 months pro-rated. Suggested retail price is $141.00 (Canada around Can.$200)

is now black, not a white plastic. Otherwise everything was exactly like it should have been. It is not the MTP-91 which is slightly smaller and black. It may be that they have changed the housing color.

Update on battery----
Interstate was not real upfront about what they sold us, it may have been just fine but the lack of honesty or clarity or how ever you nicely say it - I wouldn't buy from them if He11 froze over. The hassle just to get the right one, can only image what getting service from them would be like. No thank you.

Recently i stopped by a place called specialty battery here in greenville, sc. not sure if they are a chain or not. they have their own name brand made by exide. they had the crossfire size in stock - $73.00 with a 18 month full replacement and 75 month pro-rated. i went for it since i felt like mine was on it's last leg. perfect fit. they installed while i waited. $78.20 out the door. i felt like it was a good deal.

Question Re: Battery Replacement

Well ... time for a new battery for me too!

Anyone tried the EverStart Maxx 48N ($75 from Wal-Mart)?

Or the Super Start 48-72 ($90) or 48AGM ($140) from O'Reilly's? {Know who makes the Super Start?}

Too bad the VARTA isn't available here in the U.S. -- I'd prefer it for appearance reasons.

Question Re: Battery Replacement

Went for the cheaper Super Start (700 CCA) from O'Reilly's because it was in stock, and black (not yellow like the WM Maxx). Required a spacer for the clamp (used a brake pedal pad that was sitting around).

The new battery took a slight charge, but is still showing only 12.5V (car off)? I was expecting 13.6V (and see the 12.7V earlier in the thread). Is ~12.5V normal for the European-style "12V" batteries?
