Default Re: Personal rant about ticket.

Those in-car video systems are often thought of as a way to convict more citizens of .... whatever. And to an extent, that is true.

But fact is, they protect both the officer and citizen - from each other. It is VERY hard to defend against a recording of what happened.

I do know of one officer who was accused of propositioning a 16 year old girl. This was back in 1996-7. The officer ticketed her for speeding. I guess the dad wanted the ticket "taken care of".

When the girl's father came to talk to the chief, he told the father, "Let me review the tape".
Father: "Ah, tape? What tape?"
Chief: "We tape all of our traffic stops."
Father: "Well, I don't wanna get the guy in no trouble". (What does THAT mean? Your little girl was propositioned and YOU don't wanna cause trouble?)

The chief let him off. He COULD have let him sign a complaint and get him for a false report, right?

I asked the chief, "WHy didn't you let him sign something and throw him in jail?"
Chief: "Well, first of all Mark, the officer was driving car 5. Only cars 2 and 3 have video in them!"

ROFL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!

Odd how the guy was only interested in his little girl's defense UNTIL the tape was mentioned!
