Mine does make a sound for up to 5 seconds on cold startup, I am convinced it's the lifters. I hear it in many of the cars at the Dragon.

But the remaining tick sound is said to be the injectors. This is a sound heard on a LOT of engines these days, I have heard it on Ford and Dodge engines in the police cars we work on at the shop.

I think INFINITE is probably right about what he is saying about the cause of the noise in the injectors AND about the fuel pressure. NO, the pressure probably does NOT drop muich on startup, but the lifters do quiet down with a little oil flow!
