If you need to run a wire into the hatch area there is a simpler way. At the junction of the bulkhead and the side of the car there is a hole that is quite large and you can thread a wire through there easily. I'll add a photo I took of it if I can find it. I put the CD cables through it. This hole comes out behind the black panel that hides the gas filler cap area. I'm sure there is a similar hole on the drivers side.
Here is the CD install post, peel the trim of the rear door post and pull the carpet on the bulkhead back. You will see the hole, you will have to remove the molded panel on the side of the trunk to pull the wire through. There are a lot of wires passing through this hole.
