You CAN NOT patch the headliner. FORGET ABOUT IT. It won't work. The headliner is going to fall down on each of your heads. It is a VERY common problem with the crossfire and has happened to most of us already. It could be a combination of bad glue from the factory with the fact our headliners were never fully wrapped properly.
Save yourself the time and trouble. Have a headliner guy do the job for 140 dollars which includes the material and labor. That is what I did. That seems to be the price that most people paid (some people paid less).
Don't go to the dealer. They will probably charge about 500-600 dollars and put the same old garbage on. Just have it done by a local expert. They will use new material that looks identical to the original... it will be done right and it will never fall on your head again!
Just because you cant do it, doesnt mean that it cannot be done! Man, some people around here are just plain full of themselves! You think that owning a car for 7 years makes you a pro? So, I guess that means you are a professional painter? Tire and wheel guy? Engine builder on the 3.7? No??? Why not, you have owned one for 7 years? haha Thats just DUMB thinking(or lack of). I have only had this car for a short time, but a headliner is a headliner. What makes this one so special? So, I can replace headliners on a half dozen various cars of my own and another half dozen of friend's cars, but I will fail at this one? That thinking and that attitude is just plain idiotic. I WILL do my own, and I WILL do it well, and it WILL last. You will see, not that I really care haha Some people!!!

BTW: Miata...that is a damn good-looking "waste of money". If I wasted money like that, I would be so happy! lol Great job bro!
